Thinking of heading to Charleston with our 3 kids (1, 3, and 6) in late April. Every time I went without kids I stayed downtown in different high end hotels. With a family of five I think we need a condo now. Where would you stay with a fam of 5? Kiawah? IOP? Folley Beach? Any suggestions for activities welcome!

Wild dunes
+1 on Wild Dunes.
Folly is a dump!
Love love love Kiawah. Rent a villa.
Kiawah or Seabrook Island. Both lovely.
Folly is actually not a dump. It is a very laid back beach community that is not commercialized. Many people prefer this area over the more developed Wild Dunes Area. Sullivan's Island is also great but no hotels and not many rentals. Also, the beach there can be a bit rough for younger kids. Still worth a visit.
Seabrook is a dump. Avoid at all cost.
Definitely Kiawah. And, you should make sure you visit the SC Aquarium while in Charleston. The kids will love it....and not crowded like Bmore.
Folly is in fact a hell hole. The beach is badly eroded in the residential section, there are rats everywhere and the mosquitoes are awful.
Kiawah is by far the best beach in Charleston area and offers a lot for kids.
Kiawah!
We saw no rats or mosquitoes in Folly last summer. And the beach was very wide.
Kiawah is great but 50 minutes from downtown charleston. Wild Dunes is 15-20. So you might want to pick based on if younwantbto have access to the city.
Ummm.... So,NOT true. |
