Spring break late April Charleston with kids

I love Kiawah, but there is a possibility that you may not have beach weather in late April. With young kids, I would recommend IOP/Wild Dunes so that you have the option of making quick trips to downtown/other activities.

Kiawah would make it a huge pain to actually see charleston, but if you just want a beach vacation then it's good. I'm more of a city mouse so I'd look into renting an apartment downtown charleston.

I rented an apt downtown. They have really beautiful condos to rent close to king street near the college of charleston.

If the weather isn't warm enough for swimming (though when I've been there that time of year it has been) there are playgrounds on Kiawah, as well as biking, kayaking, playing on the beach and a kids camp your 6 year old could attend for a day or more. Driving time to Charleston from Kiawah is about 40 minutes depending on where on the island you're staying, though I think your children would prefer to spend most of the time on Kiawah rather than in Charleston.

OP here. Reason I didn't mention Kiawah in original post is bc it is too far from downtown for what I am looking for on this trip. The beach is better I agree but I didn't envision spending that much time there in April (plus we live in a MA coastal town and go to beach everyday in the summer).
