How far is the commute from NW DC to near Dulles ?

Debating whether or not this is worth an extra $30K a year.

I'm figuring its probably an hour each way?

I commute from NE DC to near Dulles and it takes me 45 minutes. I have made the trip from CCMD, right over the border, and it takes about the same. I think you can plan on 45-60 minutes.

Not worth it unless you reallllly need the money. I commuted from Ballston area to near Dulles and it was a terrible commute, an hour most mornings and over an hour in the afternoon. Not sure what route pp is taking to make it so much shorter, but I did both 66 west to 28 north (and reverse) and 66 west to dulles toll road to 28 south (and reverse) and it was basically the same time. This was trying to arrive around 8:30 and leave around 5:30. Maybe pp left earlier in the a.m.

Where in NW seems to make a big difference. If you're either far south or far north in NW it is faster than if you are in the middle (because the time to get on either 66 or the beltway is less).

10:37 here. I leave between 6:30 and 7:30 from the Hill. I take 395 to the GW Parkway to the Beltway to the Dulles Toll Road.

WOW amazing, I didn't realize jobs paid more in VA then DC. Good thing I moved out of DC.

OP, you'd be on the Outer Loop in the AM, correct? You'd be getting on well past Georgia Ave -- it usually moves pretty good up there.

I live in McLean, right off G-town Pike and work by Dulles. It takes me 30 - 45 minutes to get home in the afternoon, sometimes up to an hour thanks to traffic. I find it really hard to believe that you can get anywhere in NW DC in 45 minutes unless there is zero traffic. With no traffic, my drive is 20 minutes. But that's basically only the days the feds don't work.

The plural of anecdote is not data.

OP here. Thanks for the insight. I decided to pass on the gig. I work from home a lot now and this job would be 5x in the office. Doesnt seem worth it for a measly $30K.

Thanks.

Yeah. I wouldn't do it for that little - probably only around 18 after taxes.

The eyeroll of the bitter. It's not much money if your salary is already $200k, or whatever OP's might be.

Not bitter. Just at such a thinly disguised humble brag.
