| We are getting really low on the wait list but our DC won't be old enough to start school until September. I'm wondering if we get in and are not ready whether we'll be dropped to the bottom of the list or if we can just pay for the few months left of school to hold our space. I plan to call them with this question but wondered if anyone got in early and what happened. |
| They know when your kid will start school and they will hold their position on the waitlist. You won't be pushed to the back of the list b/c there is no way you could accept an open space until Sept. Therefore, you can't forfeit your current spot on the list. |
| I heard there was a letter that goes out in January. Have those gone out yet? |
| Impossible. There is a 2 year wait list and you can only sign up 1 year in advance. This means there are no first year kids in SACC. It's bull shit. |
It depends on the school. |
Many kindergarteners in our SACC. |
Do public schools have a duty to provide access to care outside of school hours? |
| No. Public schools do not have a "duty" to provide child care before or after school care. Some counties choose too(arlington, falls church city where every kid gets a spot) Fairfax county does not. It's an enormous county. Many elementary schools have waitlists closer to Dc and some do not. It is part of what we researched before our kids got to be school age. |
in FCPS the SaCc program has specific rules on how big each SACC center can be depending on space at school. It has to have a separate entrance etc. each center is alotted a different number of spots according to these rules. This you have small SaCc centers and large centers. And not every school has a SACC center. |
My kindergartener got into SACC and when we signed up, there was no waitlist. I think it's because our neighborhood has a lot of stay at home parents. |
| My child was #50 when signing up the first day you could and got in November. |
| We have been at two elementary schools and neither had a SACC waitlist. |
| I called last week about the letters and they have no gone out yet. I am #80 for after school care, and the guy on the phone said everything to be nice, but basically that we weren't going to get in. I need to start exploring other options. Any recommendations? |
| Where do you live? Most martial arts places near elementary schools have after school programs. If you identify the school, someone might be able to make specific recommendations. |
We received the letter today and called back to keep our son on the list. He is at #17 (at Cunningham Park), but he will be a kindergartener in the fall. So we're in no hurry. Our school's wait list has been very long in the past few years. Our daughter (second grader) was offered a spot in December to start in January after waiting for two years. We turned it down as our daughter didn't want to go to SACC. It appears several other parents turned down their offers too - our son was at #30 back in December. |
