When will DCPS make a decision on Sharpe?

Anonymous
Assume that Bridges/DCI bid is a top contender, but it will make a difference in my rankings to know that Bridges will be staying in its current neighborhood for the long run. Thanks.

Sorry, should have said "DC," not "DCPS."

Yes, but Bridges put a bid w/DCI to get all of Sharpe. I'm sure other schools made bids, too. I am curious when DC will make a decision on who gets the space.

My guess is way too late. They still have Sharpe kids at Sharpe and the new Sharpe space hasn't even broken ground yet.

I thought that they would be making a decision soon (since they put a request for bids on the campus) and that whoever gets it would have the space in time for the 2015-2016 year. But curious when DC will decide what school(s) get the space.

I'm curious too. Thought DCI was going to use Sharpe as their swing space for Fall '14 while Walter Reede was getting ready. Or they are not going to renovate Sharpe before using it?

I'm not sure about DCI, but I know that Bridges said that next year they will have the same configuration as this year, and the earliest they would do a permanent move was 2015-2016 school year.

This is what I thought too.

The proposal was for Bridges and DCI to share Sharpe since Bridges is still building up their grades. Less rent for Bridges the 1st 2 years and swing space for DCI for 2 yrs.

Are you guys saying that Bridges has now officially said nothing is changing and they're staying put until 2015-16 school year? That is a big deal - that may mean DCI is having to go find other swing space...

PP here. I shoudl clarify that I am not a Bridges parent--this is just what I heard in an open house, where I think they are often reluctant to talk about this stuff til it's finalized. So they may have meant, "don't worry about this for next year--you should just assume we will be here...." and I misinterpreted it as a 2015-2016 year move. But logisitically, since there are still kids at Sharpe and the mayor's office hasn't yet offere it out, would it be ready by the fall? I'm imagining that there would need to be some major renovations work done to the campus to make it ready for Bridges/DCI. Also, I assume that in case the bid isn't accepted, DCI is looking at other options right now.

Hopefully, DCI will announce which swing space they will use for their 6th and 7th graders in fall'14. I know at YY, there will be cramped for space although those classes are small especially if they are having prek3.

At the last info session DCI said that it was pursuing many swing spaces and that Sharpe was but one of them. They never planned on being at YY next year. They said they should be announcing soon.

CAPCS is also trying to get the Sharpe building and has a bid in. At the December 2 meeting the woman from whatever DC entity is making this decision (I forget what entity it is right now) said they were going to make a decision by the end of the year, but I am unsurprised to see that hasn't happened yet. There are also a few issues with the fact that the school is still being used and that the facility at River Terrace the present Sharpe students are being moved to is still not ready (and apparently has issues and is coming along slowly).

Today, Bridges said they were expecting decision by the end of January.
