Most tolerable tomato sauce in a jar?

Anonymous
Please don't stone me! I am fully capable of making my own sauce, but on days when I can barely lift my arms, I'd like to have jars of marinara (or other variety of) sauce on hand.

I know everyone loves Rao's, but it's really pricey.

I'd also like one that can hold up to a baked pasta dish -- sometimes with the extra effort involved in those, I don't feel like making my own.

Don't laugh but Giada's sauce at Target is really really good. It isn't expensive either. My kids love the Whole Foods 365 Organic Sauce which is only a couple of bucks but I prefer Giada's.

I really like Classico, especially the spicy pesto flavor.

Also, Trader Joes has good vodka, arribiata, and organic marinara sauces. I use them a ton too.

OP here. Which variety of Newman's and Giada's do you all prefer? IIRC there are several of each.

I also like Newman. Barilla, too. And the seasonal spinach florentine flavor of Classico, which apparently is no longer seasonal.

Classico Four Cheeses is the closest to what my great grandma slaved over for hours.
And I'm embarrassed to say that I've used Giada's Target chicken piccata sauce in a pinch and it was all the rave. That actually hurt my feelings.

I also like Newmans marinara..but I read a great review of Targets sauce..have not tried it yet though. I also once read that any sauce where the 1st ingredient is actual tomatoes rather than tomato paste etc shoudl be a high quality sauce. I also look for lower sugar sauces as I feel they are covering something.

Is that the Market Pantry brand?

OP again. Are any of the Wegman's brand sauces any good?

Giada's creamy tomato at Target is very good and my kids love it as the tomato is mild and its very cheesy. It is not at all sweet which is what makes most jarred sauces repugnant to me.

Mario Batali makes a delicious jarred sauce, that I buy on sale. All varieties are better than Rao's.

I do buy the Rao's when I see it on sale.

La Famiglia De Grosso is a similar quality to Rao's and often on sale at Giant. You have to get Tomato Basil if you don't like a spicy Marinara. They make a great Vodka sauce as well.

The pomodoro four cheese sauce at TJ's is very good. The Vodka one has a nice flavor, but it is kinda off in terms or texture.

Classico has gone down hill in the past decade and I now lump it in the same category as Prego.

Rao's. It is the only one that I have found that is good.

Rao is the best!

Another for Rao's.

Normally about 8.99 at Giant but when it goes on sale for 5.99, we stock up.
