I've never tried Rao's but now I will based on the recommendations here.

If you are going to that much trouble, why not just used canned tomatoes and sauce instead of Ragu?

Victoria is THE BEST and Giant has great sales every few weeks. It was even recommended in some magazine.

I do sometimes use canned tomato sauce instead, my family doesn't like big chunks of cooked tomato in their sauce though.

At any rate, Ragu is our "go to" jarred spaghetti sauce but I do prefer it a little doctored up, doesn't take long.

Didn't read the entire thread, but Rao's is the best - heard of it here a couple of years ago and haven't turned back!

We like Rao's but preferred Paesana. Whole Foods no longer carries Paesana, however, so I would love a local lead (NW DC) if anyone has seen it elsewhere.

We use Victoria's tomato basil... Found at giant. I think $6 a jar but until I can make a sauce that tastes like that I will be stuck buying. Delicious

We are both Italian and when my freezer stash of homemade sauce runs low, the only one I'lll consider using is Rao's.]
