| I'm new to the federal government and understand that there are many places that recognize federal employment status. Thanks! |
| I get 15% off my Verizon cell phone plan...that's about it. |
| There is no such thing as a federal employee discount and you can't use federal employment for private benefit. |
"You don't know so many things?"
|
| Cell phone plan. Some rental companies offer a discount but not many. If you have your badge on you, you get 10% off at Smithsonian cafeterias. |
| There are impromptu "discounts" like during the shutdown, free donuts and beer, stuff like that. But ethically you cannot receive goods and services due to your government employment. |
| AT&T wireless plan discount. |
| Hotel leisure rates! |
| umm there pretty much is no discount. Everyone hates feds and bashes them at every turn. |
| Hotels often have a government rate. Some are only for employees on official travel orders, some can also be used for leisure travel for Feds. Just depends on the hotel. |
Under certain circumstances you can receive discounts as a fed employee. There are exceptions to the general "no free stuff" ethics rules. The phone discounts fall within an exception. |
| Verizon. And I think when my bought my last mac, there was no discount but you got a free ipod touch with purchase. |
There is a federal discount for mac laptops, I just bought one and I want to say it was either $100 or $200 (I really can't remember) off sticker price. |
|
Discounts available broadly to all federal employees are usually fine. See:
http://www.oge.gov/DisplayTemplates/ModelSub.aspx?id=1429 or: http://www.oge.gov/Topics/Gifts-and-Payments/Gifts-from-Outside-Sources/ We use one for our cell phone (AT&T formerly, not TMobile) and have used it for computer purchases (Dell and Apple). |
apple does have a govt employee store that can be used for personal purchases but the discounts are usually small or nonexistent. telling hotels I am on personal travel but have a govt id has come in handy sometimes. |
