I read this in the post today. Losers all the way around. Bring that noise to other parts of the city...whoa. Tough kids.

Give me a break. They're kids.

The fact that they are kids does not give them a pass. This is pretty shameful.

It is not shameful as much as it is lame. I taught in a private school in this city and I used to go to some of the sporting events. We were at a WIS event and MY kids start chanting "IMMIGRANTS" over and over.

In class Monday, I ripped them a new one. It was disrespectful and more than that, STUPID. Bring it to one of these athletic schools in the city, even Wilson, those athletes can talk real shit b/c they have real skills, they could eat my kids for lunch.

If that is what SOME kids at Sidwell want to say, that is too bad. Many of them may be smart, but a handful are not so much.

Maret wasn't even in the running. Michelle Obama didn't even tour the school. Her consideration of Maret was all made up by the press and people on this forum.

Wow. Way to miss the point. It doesn't matter if Sidwell was playing WIS or STA or Maret, it is the fact that they used that as a cheer. It just reeks of everything Sidwell boosters on this board tell us Sidwell ISN'T.

I fail to see the outrage.

Seriously folks. The chant is a little lame, but to call it shameful is ridiculous. These are kids at a basketball game.

I'm not sure I would go so far as to label it shameful, but I do think the incident speaks to the high level of selfworth these kids have merely because their families can afford to send them to an expensive private school. I suspect the Maret kids also feel quite good about themselves for equally dubious reasons.

I send my kid to private for the great academics and facilities, but I do worry about the attitudes DC may be picking up from peers.

Nonetheless, this seems like a fairly mild issue.

It would also be nice if I could spell lable correctly!!

I asked my son about this. He wasn't at the game but has a number of friends who were. He hadn't heard about the Obama cheer, but had heard about quite a few other chants - ranging from mildly to very inappropriate - coming from both sides (he actually assumed that this was what I was aksing about).

the outrage displayed here is just plain dumb. don't you ivy league grads remember chanting "safety school" at sporting competitions with non-ivy schools? i think this is rather tame by comparison--and shouldn't they be excited that the obamas chose to educate their children at their school? these are kids, after all...

Not suprised when I saw the types of applicants children and families they are attracting. We went for a recent playdate. My DC wanted to say hello to the girl getting out of the car next to us. My DC waived and smiled and the little snob stuck her toungue out at our DC and snubbed her as she walked by. What a brat! Thankfully it didn't seem to bother our DC too much. I hope this is not the type of child they are accepting at Sidwell. They claim they want diversity and to teach respect. I hope they practice what they preach.
