Friend is coming home from hospital with a new baby tomorrow. What food item can I drop off that will be appreciated by her (and husband, small child number one, and various relatives)? These people are serious cooks and have provided us with some delicious sustenance when we were ill/having babies, so I feel like I need to bring my A game.
Extra points for anyone who suggests something other than lasagna. |
| sustenance lol |

lasagna.
bakes ziti a rotisserie chicken |
| What the above person said. Plus salad. |
|
try this:
saute some chicken. dump into a bowl and then use same pan to saute some spinach with garlic boil a box of noodles make a white sauce (1 tablespoon butter, melted, whisk with 2 tablespoons flour, add a cup or so of milk, let thicken): add spinach and chicken and a container of pesto to the white sauce. i also add chopped sundried tomatoes. dump over pasta. mix. add some shredded mozzarella. bake at 350 for 30 min if you need to (aka, if you didn't cook the chicken all the wya through) send with a baguette. |
| We always send comfort food. Homemade macaroni and cheese or a pot pie, plus salad and dessert. |
+1 and I always do a good fruit salad for dessert. Who has time to chop up all that fruit with a newborn? |
|
I try to bring a dish that's not pasta since people get a lot of lasagne/zits etc. So a chicken dish etc. Agree you should bring a salad and/ or fruit salad since people with a newborn don't often have time to prepare fresh food.
I have also gone to/ received a meal from whole foods with a few meats, side salads. |

My go to dish is bacon and jalapeƱo Mac and cheese. So unhealthy that you never make it for yourself, but love it when someone else makes/brings it. Also, kids love it. Make sure to use the non-spicy pickled jalapeƱos for kid #1 and breastfeeding mom.
There is a decent started recipe on taste of home, but there are lots of options for modifications (particularly in your choice of cheese). |
| Bake some sustenance. |
| One of those pre made pizzas from whole foods, plus a container of romaine lettuce and some Cesare dressing. Or, pick up a meal from home made pizza co. |
| You might want check first. I was on a restricted diet. All the stuff people dropped off was largely wasted. |
This sounds like a great idea. And pick up some of their fruit. This would be perfect. |
| Quiche or hearty soup or muffins (in addition to dinner) and cut up veggies and fruit bc who has time for that |
| Something you can eat one handed. It took a while for me to get back to fork-and-knife-on-plate-at-table foods. In the beginning, that baby is in your arms and/or on your breast all the time. |
