| I am going to do some holiday baking tonight - one of the women I'm planning on giving the baked goods to is newly pregnant (I'm assuming 6-8 weeks along). One of the cookie recipes calls for 1tsp espresso powder (makes 24 cookies). Obviously a negligible amount of caffeine, but I wonder if I'm better off just leaving the espresso powder out altogether. She's my boss (I'm her daughter's nanny) so I don't want her thinking I'm a total moron by trying to feed a pregnant woman caffeine. On the other hand, the espresso powder makes the cookies 10x more delicious. What do you guys think? |
| You have got to be f$#%ing kidding me. |
That was rude. It's sweet that OP is concerned. OP - It will be just fine! 1 tsp for two dozen cookies is SUCH a tiny amount in each cookie, and it's safe for pregnant women to have small amounts of caffeine daily. |
as long as you don't offer her pot brownies, you're good to go.
|
| Do you know that she avoids caffeine like the plague during pregnancy? Or are you just assuming this is something pregnant women do? I had a latte ( 2 shots if expresso) daily with both of my pregnancies & my kids are happy and healthy, |
She's normally a pretty hardcore coffee drinker (2-3 cups/day) and has switched to herbal tea. She has told me she was "off caffeine" her last pregnancy. She's a doctor and generally very easygoing about stuff like this, but obviously little to no caffeine while pregnant is important to her. I'm not so concerned about the amount of caffeine in the cookies (it's an incredibly small amount) but I just don't want her to think that I'm not aware of the potential issues regarding pregnancy/caffeine and that I've given her espresso loaded cookies or something. MY GOD I am totally overthinking this. But like I said, she's my boss and a doctor, and I am cautious to consistently show her that I know my stuff as a nanny. |
| I would let her know that there is 1 tsp of espresso among all the cookies. She can decide for herself. It's the thought that counts, so she will know that you went to the time and trouble of making the cookies. |
| I don't drink coffee (decaf sometimes) during pregnancy and I'd eat your cookies. |
+1. This is your answer. I would tell her and she will probably be so much more appreciative that you cared enough to tell her…and then she'll hug you and snarf them down. |
