suspect I have endometriosis- what is the next step?

Anonymous
I'm wondering if my ectopic pregnancy and subsequent secondary infertility (after significant aheasions due to delivering via C-section) could be due to endometriosis. Shady Grove pushes IVF but I'm wondering if there are other diagnostic/treatment options.

What is out there?

You should do a lap. The only way to diagnose endometriosis is via lap surgery.

I have friends who received treatment at the pope Paul institute in omaha, ne. The clinic has amazing success rates. Maybe you could call and ask for a referral for a local doc or at least talk with someone about your situation. It's a Catholic-affiliated clinic but my friends are not Catholic.

Good luck!

I recommend lap surgery. If they find endo, the next step is removing it. Depending on what they find, they can either burn it off during the lap surgery or do regular surgery and cut it away.

I would go to your regular gynecologist (or OBGYN) for suspicion of endo.

I don't think you need to go as far as Omaha. There are a lot of really excellent people in the region.

Endometriosis is usually an indication for IVF. Even if they remove it, it may still be hard for you to get pregnant. There are inflammatory processes that can impact fertilization and implantation. I had very light endo that was all removed during a lap surgery, and I still did not get pregnant through stimulated timed intercourse. I did get pregnant on my first IVF.

OP here/ Thanks for the replies so far. I've done IVF and haven't had problems with fertilization or implantation. Does that mean I don't have endo?

OP again- I mean, to clarify, endo that is impacting my fertility to the point where I need IVF?

My concern is that we did IVF for something that really could have been cured via a solution for IVF

Do some googling on pycnogenol supplementation for endomitriosis. I know I had endo, lost my left ovary to an endo cyst before I got married, and suffered 2.5 years of infertility bedore getting pg with ds. I was taking pycnogenol (among other supplements) at the time, on my RE's advice.

How many threads are you going to start about you?

I had endo and a lap. It came back so I cut gluten and dairy and upped my exercise. I no longer have problems and have been able to have gluten and dairy again. Just my experience.

OP I think people are having a hard time since this is the infertility forum and you have had success, twice. Why can't you just be happy with that? Many of us have been here for years and haven't been successful even once. I hope you can figure out how to let go and live your life with your children.

I believe all sorts of infertility deserves support. I'm sorry you don't. It's interesting; for secondary infertility, you have people who have had no problems conceiving beat up on you and the people with fertility issues beat up on you. BUmmer we can't just be supportive of one another.

Again, good luck with your journey.

20:28 here. Sorry if I wasn't clear. The point is that endometriosis causes problems with fertilization *inside your body*, due to inflammatory processes (I'm actually not sure if it causes implantation issues). That is why IVF helps even if your tubes are undamaged etc. Just like you, I have had success with IVF, yet didn't get pregnant naturally despite having had my endo cleaned out. Sometimes, however, a lap might help. But it's not a guarantee that you won't need IVF.
