Not sure why this is bothering me, but she wears very tight jeans, and alot of shirts that shows bare shoulders even in winter. Often I can see her midriff even when she isn't sitting on floor or reaching. In warmer weather, it's dresses that I would consider a beach coverup. She's a great teacher.
Would you say something to the director? |
I wouldn't say anything. We had a teacher like this and she turned out to be our favorite -- once we got past the trampy attire! It even provoked a teachable moment when my daughter asked why Miss X wore shirts that showed her cleavage and Mommy didn't ...
One of the benefits of being a preschool teacher is that you can dress casually. I'd let her enjoy it. |
I agree. If she's a good teacher, that's all that matters in my book. And if she weren't a good teacher, it wouldn't be because of the clothes, so I still wouldn't care about them. |
Where's the harm in her clothes? |
OP here--I likely wasn't really considering talking to director--but I am a professional and dress appropriate for my job. Guess I had a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that some folks feel they can go around with bare midriffs at work. Maybe I wish I could be more casual at my work. Maybe I am jealous my muffintop wouldn't look so hot in those tops![]() I still think she should tone it down but I agree a good teacher is the most important thing! |
As a teacher, I agree with the OP. My principal has sent home colleagues who were dressed inappropriately. You are a role model for students and should dress the part. What does it say about how she views herself in this profession? I understand the need to dress down, especially teachers of young kids and art teachers. However, there are appropriate dress down items that still allow you to look professional. |
Meh. I think if she's a great teacher and it is either no big deal or a teachable moment with the kids, I'd count my blessings and not worry about it. |
No plumbers cracks please. A middle school teacher had the crack plus tatoos, belly piercing, n1pple see through, then preggers and skin on stomach plus outie and tight clothes. Had average figure yet this isn't appropriate. |
I'd count your blessings. She's a good teacher, leave her be. |
This might be all she can afford -- she's using her personal casual wear for classroom wear, instead of having "two" wardrobes. Yeah, it would be nice if her one wardrobe were a bit more conservative, but I probably wouldn't say anything, either. |
maybe she's from warmer climate. People in Miami or LA dress a lot more casual than people from DC or NY. At least from what I've seen...I couldn't believe how much cleavage and skin I saw at an elementary graduation in Socal! Both the little 11 yr olds and their mothers! |
Maybe it'll get the dads to attend the parent teacher conferences! |
I think there is a difference between bare shoulders and a bare midriff. The bare midriff, yeah, that's pushing it. But it seems, well, prudish to be concerned about bare shoulders. |
As a former teacher I agree with one of the PPs. Our clothing is a reflection of who we are, an important part of being a teacher is acting as a role model. I wouldn't want my daughter to dress like that and I would expect that her teacher set a better example. I dressed very differently on the weekends than during the week when I was teaching. You might want to mention it to the director as it doesn't give a good impression of the school. |
How do the other teachers dress? If they are all that casual, it may be b/c there is no dress code for the staff. They probably get paid very little but if it does bother you, speak to the director. |
