ECNL moving to school year not calendar

I'm hearing that ECNL might have to go it alone.

Why I love this message board or the unanimous ones is because I’ll make this statement and you have no idea if I’m telling the truth.

School year cut offs are going to be approved and it’s already been decided now is soccer just has to just stamp yes. They will push this mandate to each governing league to start when they want which will be spring 25 or by Fall 26 at the latest.

ECNL has already had talks about going with Grad year but don’t want to spook anyone which is why they’ve gone quiet as far as posting anything official. More than likely ECNL will allow the non high school kids to shuffle around for spring as long as they are rostered on an ECNL team with that club already.

Also ECNL doesn’t want to deal with date constraints so will allow waiver systems for each team/kid to apply for a waiver and explain why they were held back or started late or whatever. Each team can only have 2-3 kids on waivers per team from what I understand. And ECNL will not approve everyone’s waivers. Your birth month will matter a lot also. Summer kids more likely to be approved then an August hold back kid.

Just saying most of the northeast starts Sept 1, so their August kids aren’t holdbacks.

^ This. I’ve heard similar and that the vote was already done to switch and it’s now in the “appeal” process which will be reviewed on 11/22. I heard each team can have 3 exceptions based on waivers (players staying up) and the date range I’ve heard is the old one, which was 8/1 to 7/31.

For Fall 25 maybe but it will be approved. US Club , AYSO, USYS all on board and have a roll out plan in place.

This is how the GY held back parents are planning to sneak into leagues like ECNL.

If waivers for playing down happens it will immediately become corrupted and kill ECNL.

But that's OK everyone will see what's going on a switch leagues.

ECNL will allow the hold backs depending on their birthdate and why they had to repeat a grade and when they repeated a grade. Everyone won’t be approved. It won’t get out of hand. Everything will be okay.

Interesting about how ECNL would be alone on it. So all other leagues would by BY? I didn’t hear that at all but interesting.

Denial is not just a river in Africa.

It’s already been approved it’s happening. Just accept it and embrace the change. Just like all the old trapped player families did.

Won't happen because it will force all the top clubs to recruit held back players. It would also force the top players to get held back to be a double standout on a team.

Parents hate waivers. It's one of the things that killed DA. (Allowing some players to play in HS via waivers) Everyone was pissed about it.

There's all kinds of ways ECNL can implement SY even if everyone else stayed BY. It's not a big deal.

MLSN already allows biobanding, so player can play down and use the 12-23 months advantage to crush younger team. I am not surprised ECNL will copy MLSN's dirty trick on biobanding to make ECNL teams stronger at all costs.

Completely agree, just find it interesting and didn’t hear any “noise” around that possibility from my club but they’ve also been pretty quiet on it.

MLS Acadamies don't care about biobanding. Those type of players are crash test dummies.
