ok. I want the cava-poo-chon

Anonymous

the cava-poo-chon is a new mixed breed dog that keeps its puppy face throughout its life, is hypo-allergenic and can live a long (20 years?) life. In other words...perfect!

I have a maltese that's hypo-allergenic, lives long (normally 15+) and remains cute her whole life. They are an amazing breed without being yappy like chihuahuas or rambunctious like terriers.

I'm generally a little distrustful of intentional mixed breeds, given that I think that most of the people who breed them are trying to get money, and that I don't see the improvement in a Yorkie-poo, or a Goldendoodle over a poodle or a Golden Retriever, both of which you can get from ethical breeders. When I've looked at websites for these designer dogs, I often see breeders who have many litters going on at once, a sure sign that dogs aren't being raised as part of a family, or treated the way they should be.

However, I also really love Cavaliers, but would never have one due to the heart issues. Creating intentional Cavalier mixes seems to have potential to save at least some of the wonderfulness of this breed, without continuing to create dogs who will suffer and die young. So, if there are ethical breeders of Cava-poo-chons or Cava-poos or Cava-chons, who follow the same standards of top quality breeders of purebred dogs, I think that would be great.

I have to admit they're also really cute.

The name sorta seems like cavity poop chon.

So cute! But looks very much like a toy poodle, if you keep a puppy cut.

OP, make sure it doesn't have some weird stuff that goes along with the "breed," like tendency to pee, or dim-witted stuff, etc. Probably not bc of the cross, but just see about personality vs. just about the cute factor.

People, let's not promote the designer breeds (that is, mutts). There are PLENTY of designer breeds (that is, mutts) at the animal shelters. Please save a life. A dog is NOT an accessory. You are NOT Paris Hilton.

It looks like a puppy but an unattractive one.

But when you want a particular mixed breed, it's no different from wanting a particular pure breed. I agree with you that most people should adopt rather than go to a breeder, but I wouldn't single out designer breeds as being any more ludicrous than pure breeds.

There are only 2 ways I'd get a dog. Either adopting a dog in need of a home, from a shelter or rescue or a person who needed to rehome due to difficulty, or from a top quality breeder. By top quality, I mean a breeder who raises dogs to show, keeps them with their family, and only occasionally breeds as a way to further the breed and find their next show dog. I'd want a breeder who bred at most once or twice a year, who had a small number of dogs, who interviewed me at length, and who made me swear up and down that I would return the dog to them if something happened.

Designer "breeds" take the show dog part out of the occasion, and make it more likely that you'll get a dog that has passed down negative traits. In addition, many designer dog breeders are in it for the profit, which leads to larger number of dogs and puppies than they can include in their family, and puts the dogs at risk for other types of cost cutting like keeping them confined in cages.

It's possible that you can find a designer dog breeder who takes all the same precautions as a top AKC breeder, but I think it's challenging. When someone posts that they want a goldendoodle or a cava-poo or whatever, people often reply with websites, but when you go to those websites they're full of red flags.

I have a cavapoo and my neighbor has a cava-chon. They are great little dogs (and, FYI) look just like the Cava-poo-chons. Don't get sucked in to paying those crazy amounts. This is a case of amazing marketing rather than any research. That combination will now be overbred like crazy -- stay clear!!

Stop the senseless breeding!!

Go to petfinder.com and find a dog on there that will fit with your family like and style and adopt one that needs a home, instead of lining a breeders pocket or supporting a puppy mill.
