We used to live in Shaw not far from this shooting. I can list at least 3 murders that happened on our block - 2 that were not even covered by the media.

DH was attacked pretty badly on our block. He was in a coma for two weeks. Nary a mention anywhere.

Yeah.

Nothing shows the death of local media than the lack of coverage of crimes like this.

The Post has a tiny local section, and WCP and Popville are not even close to sufficient replacements.

I am so sorry about your husband. I hope he is OK!

I mean, if we didn't believe in that, we'd have had to keep Rush Limbaugh in jail after his opioid crimes. But we believed he could get better.

this is so stupid.

People who view every news story or event as an opportunity to trumpet the red team or blue team are in general extremely dull, stupid people. You are 100% right.

A witness says Bedney was riding a Lime DC scooter near the victims' house when one of the victims shouted to Bedney, "Hey, my kids are playing out here."

Bedney and the witness got into a verbal altercation wherein the witness picked up and threw the scooter towards Bedney's feet. The witness says that's when Bedney put a ski mask over his face and pulled out a semi-automatic handgun from his bag, firing multiple shots towards the victims.

Or maybe Karen won’t yell at him and her husband won’t attack him next time.

Exactly. I carry a gun with me at all times so I can shoot people's kids when they yell at me and throw my scooter.

I'm here. I think this guy was nuts and doesn't change how I feel at all. They should have backed away and not confronted him. You can be right or you can be dead.

Thank god the world operates by a legal code and not your “street code”.

Look, they ended up shot. The world obviously does run by a street code. This is a really bizarre perspective to take.

If someone tried to run over your toddlers on an electric scooter, you would just say NOTHING?! I would definitely say "dude slow down!". This does NOT warrant being shot. He shot a freaking CHILD!!!! He could have killed both children easily.

I wouldn’t let my toddler play on a sidewalk in busy Logan Circle. The last time I checked Logan Circle is in the heart of downtown. This isn’t a leafy part of upper northwest. Nor is it a not so pedestrian trod section of leafy side street full of single family dwellings in Northeast. This isn’t a quiet culdesac in the burbs which sees almost no foot traffic other than your neighbors.

These people didn’t deserve to get hurt, but the posters who keep mentioning street smarts nailed it. DC isn’t Kansas stop acting like you think it should be and are outraged when in instances like this you find it isn’t.

I have relatives, who live in the city and a fact of life for them is that they don’t do certain things that my family takes for granted like playing on the sidewalk in front of my house. Their children are way more cautious of strangers and the like than mine are because they encounter far more strangers in a typical day than mine do.

The ones that could afford it moved to leafy upper nw single family homes and yes even they are more cautious than we are. These random crimes of “opportunity” can happen anywhere being a random victim of one is more likely to happen in a place where you have lots of different people sharing a small space.

This is why people move to the suburbs or to less trafficked parts of the city. I didn’t want to raise my family in the city because I wanted them to be more free, naive and yes safe. There is a trade off.

You must not come into the city often or only go to Metro Center if you do. Logan Circle in the daytime is pretty safe and fairly leafy,m. I would absolutely let my toddler play in Logan Circle as would many others. Logan Circle is, in fact, far safer than other areas in NW.

Letting your kids play on the grass in the park in Logan Circle isn’t the same thing. I have friends who lived in Logan circle and left for Bethesda when the kid came along. Raising kids in that part of the city just doesn’t make a lot of sense. There are so many family friendly areas that are close to the city yet so much better.

Also your ski mask in May for that tricky spring weather!

This! At this point the movie Unhinged should be required viewing for all teens and adults.

How does anyone pick up and throw a Lime scooter?

I’m thinking that if someone almost mows down your toddler you acquire super human strength via anger. Similar to the Incredible Hulk.

It’s gotta be a swinging motion, like the discus. I wonder if he did a full 360.

Wow! So was that the defending his wife? Or did she throw the scooter? Like road rage without a car. Dumb to incite because you never know and people really don't like things thrown at them. Said he was riding it near their house. I keeping hearing about mowing down toddlers.

Some of you are clearly posting from the burbs of Ohio. A scooter is not a moped.

So -

A) they had their kid blocking access on a public sidewalk

B) got so mad at someone using the sidewalk that they assaulted him first

They didn’t deserve to be shot but were entitled and aggressive in both circumstances prior to the shooting.

Reminds me of the CA mom who cut someone off in traffic and flipped them off but was sobbing about her baby not deserving to be shot in the news conference hours later.
