Why not #taylorrunandseminary?

Cos the rich people on Seminary Road got what they wanted but did not need.

Who says they didn't need it?

And again, why not both?

Because there aren’t unlimited funds or time. And if you are the one whose and is always stating “well change that,” we have. So please stop saying that unless you plan to come help us.

There's plenty of money for sidewalks and protected bike lanes. It's just that they're spending it on other things, because they don't think that sidewalks and protected bike lanes are a priority.

Those are not in conflict.

I live in Clover and want to know why leaves were cleaned from the Seminary Rd. bike lanes while our neighborhood is in the second week of waiting for leaves to be picked up after the City missed several scheduled dates.

#bikelanesbeforestreets

Presumably there are a gazillion roads without bike lanes where the leaves have also been picked up. Why focus on Seminary Rd?

Also, on roads with bike lanes, bike lanes are part of the road.

Because Seminary Road doesn’t have parking lanes and no one uses the bike lanes. We cannot park in front of our houses because leaves have been piled up for three weeks.

Is your street the only one that hasn't had leaf pick-up?

Ask the city not us. They did not make it a priority. Don’t blame those that are frustrated by the city’s inaction. Residents have been fighting this issues for years. A cyclist was also nearly killed on that street about 4 years ago.

Was cyclist injured?

A cyclist in our neighborhood was badly injured on Taylor Run and the City still does nothing about the cut through traffic.

This is the biggest lie I've read or heard in all of this Seminary Road bike lane discussion!

Just wait until the VA DOV votes to put HOV South bound lanes directly onto Seminary Road. It will be a cluster everywhere on the west to east of Alexandria City.! Way to go Alexandria City council and hired hands.

The south bound 395 HOV ramp is already HOV 24/7 on Seminary. Are you talking about the HOT lane conversion? If so, it is the north bound ramp that was the concern, and that is already open as a HOT lane.

Not true, pp. Yes NB from Seminary is HOT but what is being considered by the State is conversion of SB 395 EXIT TO SEMINARY TO HOT from HOV.

Here is an excellent summary and discussion from Alex Times' Missy Schrott yesterday plus site to VA DOT as residents where you can suggest yea or nay on same:

Transurban, VDOT explore conversion of I-395 HOV ramp. https://alextimes.com/2019/12/i-395-hov-ramp/
Dec 19, 2019

"A potential change to Interstate 395’s High Occupancy Vehicle ramp onto Seminary Road could add more cars to an already congested major city roadway.

The proposed change, which is under consideration by Transurban and the Virginia Department of Transportation, would involve converting the south-facing ramp from I-395 to Seminary Road from an HOV exit to a High Occupancy Toll exit. Essentially, vehicles could pay to exit onto Seminary Road, regardless of how many passengers are in the vehicle, which could increase traffic on Seminary Road....

There was a community meeting in Alexandria detailing the findings of the traffic report on Dec. 9 that was attended by about 50 people, according to Michelle Holland, megaprojects communications manager for VDOT. The public input period is open through Dec. 31.[b] To submit comments, email 395expresslanes@VDOT.virginia.gov

I am the immediate PP - we are in the same neighborhood.

That's what I said. The southern ramp will potentially go from HOV 24/7 to HOT. However, insofar as traffic is concerned, the northern ramp is the problematic one. I was at that meeting and as a community rep, have had multiple meetings with Transurban on this issue. I am pretty well versed on what is happening.

There's plenty of money for sidewalks and protected bike lanes. It's just that they're spending it on other things, because they don't think that sidewalks and protected bike lanes are a priority.

Can you spell this out specifically? What money in the Alexandria budget should be reallocated?

Heard last night from a SSSAS family that people on Seminary Rd wanted the road narrowed so that traffic would slow down because many are older and planning to sell their houses. What they originally asked for was a median with trees planted in it, but the City told them bike lanes would be easier for people to accept.

Take a look at the transportation budget.

Yes, but where? I am pretty familiar with the transportation budget (I assume you mean the transportation specifically and not TES as a whole- some other poster confused the two). What would you specifically reallocate? What in that budget would you de-prioritize? RBT? DASH? WMATA funding? Paving? Traffic Calming? Traffic data collection funding (inc the new Bluetooth tech?) LPI? new signalized intersections? pedestrian islands? RFPBs? HAWK signals? Crosswalks? Upgrading existing sidewalks for disability access? Staff pay?

That's up to you.

Or, you can decide that all of those things are higher priorities than more sidewalks.

At least people use sidewalks. Bike lanes have very low usage.

Justin works for Amtrak, so his priority now is the new venture with CSX to get the Amtrak/VRE deal done for Amazon at National Landing. IMHO what will get him out of office is not the bike laned but his conflicts around the Amtrak VRE venture.

Someone who used the phrase “you guys” is too old to understand a hipster.

No- I'm a gen x from NY (hence the "you guys"). Yuppies live in Del Ray. Just because someone wears a beanie does not make them a hipster.
