I think CB is the principal and 2093 is the number of seats for Reed + Ashlawn + McKinley. If they are all neighborhood schools let us know how you would fill them? I suspect that McK will need all of the PUs through Tuckahoe & Nottingham up to the Discovery Walkzone if you fill Reed/Ashlawn. |
|
So now the McKinley parents are upset that they spent money on features for their public school and they might be moved out of that school?
Can we put them and the ASFS parents in a leaky boat and send them off somewhere? |
| What will happen to the PUs that are touching where McKinley currently is? It seems like they probably won't go to Reed, but if they're moved to Ashlawn wouldn't that mean that Tuckahoe would be crazily underenrolled? Tuckahoe's going to have to give up at least a couple of PUs to Reed it would seem just based on proximity. |
| They need to look at a 5 year timeline for where they’ll need seats. Cause that’s about how long before they’ll draw boundaries again. And staff shouldn’t be meeting with separate communities. Thought they said they were done with that at the ambassador’s mtg. |
| Tuckahoe should definitely take some of the orphan McKinley units that don’t go to Reed. Tuckahoe already has units from Madison Manor area. Tuckahoe will lose some Overlee units to Reed but maybe not all depending on how boundaries shake out. |
That looks about right. Pretty crazy that to fill McKinley, both Tuckahoe and Nottingham would have to be Option schools. Once the Ashlawn tail is chopped off there will be about 1,000+ seats to fill (725 new seats for Reed and 1/2 of Ashlawn). |
| Pre-K is not school specific. It gets moved around where ever there is space. It is never considered as part of the actual capacity |
| Yeah. One of those 3–Reed, McKinley or Ashlawn has to go option or we will be bussing kids all over creation, no? |
| Why isn't Reed being considered for an option school instead of McKinley? I don't know the background. Is it really that a deal was made with Westover? What kind of deal? I'm not a McKinley or Tuckahoe parent, so I don't know all the background. |
Yes and no. There are certain code requirements for pre-school classes, so moving preschool classes to a school that hasn’t had them before often requires a build-out, which means taking funds from something else. Obviously they can do that, but they’d prefer not to. |
They said in the video it's because 400+ kids can walk to Reed. But there was also discussion that the roads aren't as conducive to all the buses an option school would bring. |
| I posted this before but allow me to try again: would 'Partner-School Option' have a chance to be successful? Match up one S school with one N school and let families choose or lottery which one to go to and bus both ways. I think two buses would probably do. |
I can’t imagine this appealing to most people or being worth the extra busing. |
really, who at Nottingham or Discovery is going to voluntarily ride a bus to Barcroft or Randolph? Families move to NA because they’ve decided “the schools” are worth the housing premium. |
Agreed, the McKinley kids who can't walk to Reed or Ashlawn should be bussed to Tuckahoe so Tuckahoe units that can walk to Reed can do so. |
