Eliot-Hines Middle School

Go on entertaining yourself here. I'm confident that it's clear to everyone that the same lady comes back to Ward 6 threads to stir the pot out of boredom, self-importance, or loneliness, what do I know, with certainly no kids in the house or she wouldn't be posting at all hours of the day. If you spent any time at all away from your computer out and about the neighborhood - I mean beyond the one or two blocks that define your neighborhood - you'd know better. Get a grip or seek help.

I sort of enjoy crazy word-salad lady. She's barely capable of writing in English, but doesn't let that stop her. Her dislike of whites and her willingness to voice it is rather entertaining.

As a Ward 6 parent who struggles to pay private school tuition for a middle school student, I find comfort in what she writes.

Every time she launches into what could be a Dave Chapelle skit, I remember why my child is in private school.

Thanks crazy word salad lady, your racism coupled with being barely literate (no doubt the product of the District's public schools) makes me know I'm doing the right thing by getting my child out of DCPS.

Now, I'd best get to steppin', no?

+1. EH is a bridge too far for white families and will be for a long time, fabulous IB curriculum or no IB curriculum. The dyed in the wool Maury optimists, and a few from Brent and Tyler, won't be able to change that. They may send their children for a year or two, like Jimmy Carter did with Amy in NW all those years ago, but they won't stay. Mark my words, they won't stay.

I'm the pp who post a page back on how many Brent, Maury, Tyler people there were at the mtg. I am a white parent of a white child. My child has several AA friends. If their parents came to me talking about a new school option they were considering and I looked into it and saw that it was nearly completely white or 100% white, I would strongly recommend that they reconsider. Well, ok, I would only do that if they asked me my opinion, otherwise I would just think that in my head. I think it's extremely hard to be an "only" or 1 of a very few. Especially at middle school and high school. Not such a big deal at the PS level where they don't even notice/care.

I think it's erroneous to feel that E-H and Eastern somehow NEED white people to succeed, but I do think that it makes for a better social environment to have diversity. Actual diversity. Some black, some AA, some mixed, some Asian, some Hispanic. Diversity. Some rich, lots of middle, some poor. I was impressed with the presentation and my kids have been in many situations where they have been the only and that's been fine. Totally different story when it comes to middle school where all the kids are studying each other and trying to find differences and trying to figure out who they are.

Word salad lady is really funny though. The overt racism is extremely off-putting and makes me, a DCPS grad and DCPS parent, embarrassed that she is associated with DCPS in any way. Such racism does not help the discussion, nor does it help our schools move forward. Despite of white, black, brown, the fact of the matter is the DCPS test scores are horrendous for the most part and there's still a lot of work to be done. I, for one, am happy to roll up my sleeves and continue to help, but I won't do it in an atmosphere in which I am made to feel unwelcome.

Live here and love it. Cry racism and I love that too. Remember the earliers posts that made references that EH and E-H were still not of the white familes choosing. My immediate response is who gives a damn. I see we can't fool ya, we incorporate IB at our Ward 6 only high school. Thus capitol hill children will not attend but potomac gardens children will participate. The con-job is up, we surely didn't lure any white families to Eastern or E-H and the blame is on little ol'me. My job is done here, let me keep whites out of Dunbar, Cardozo, Ballou, Anacostia, Banneker, McKinley and the rest. Thanks for the power-boost. As Dave Chappelle would say you gotta love white people.

New poster. It is erroneous, pp. You certainly won't see a highly successful DCPS middle school without strong white participation for the simple reason that white is a proxy for upper-middle-class in this city. Without affluent parents on board in large numbers, at least one-third of families behind the school, the institution will struggle endlessly on many levels, I admire you for being willing to roll up your sleeves, but picking your battles counts for more.

That is what I have been saying. The color is green and the race is to be first. This craziness about being welcomed is nothing but a ploy. I am at this juncture the schools in Ward 6 are open to everyone. Yet everyone is not welcomed per the stroller brigade status. Yes I use that term because it is the most accurate term.

I remember all the discussions involving Eastern and it is ironic that whites are eating crow. They were so terribly wrong that Kaya terminated the white woman who was over-seeing the project (community). We had our planning year, we had our freshmen year and now we are embarking on our sophomore year. Making our benchmarks but would like to have more financial imput and not finicky people. I am finding my FARM student families extremely rich in resources.

You do know that this isn't English, right? At least not the way they teach it outside of DCPS.

Oh, no. This person is a teacher at Eastern?

That explains it all. . .

I pity the fools who are trying to make light of a situation. If it is not comprehensible and you respond then you are the word salad lady's salad dressing. Oil and vinegar.

Bump. Anyone have anything new to contribute re Eliot-Hine? How did it do in the recent testing? Has anything interesting happened in the last nine months?
