the dems tried for decades to ban gerrymandering...the GOP refused. This is the direct result of that obstenance. |
This would be a disaster for the rural areas. Most of the state budget is funded by the “liberal” parts. But you probably think that’s a good thing since it would “starve the beast.” |
Best of luck without 42% of the GDP. https://novaregion.substack.com/p/northern-virginia-economy-grew-by-4b6 |
This post from July aged poorly. |
And thank goodness, right? The Republicans have redrawn FIVE states. Thanks to the win yesterday the Democrats have now redrawn, TWO. |

It was closer than I had hoped for. I’m pragmatist so I voted yes, but this result is nothing to celebrate. Virginia had a decent model and I hate that we had to stoop to Texas and NC-like behavior to save our country from antidemocratic rule. I look forward to putting our fair maps back into action after the threat to the Republic is neutralized. And my friends on the right - if you feel like this is unjust and you’re disappointed, you have a lot of sympathy from Dems in NC who feel the exact same way. |

It was close. And agree that they did a great job with the messaging. I saw ads that strongly implied Obama supported the NO vote, ads that Spanberger strongly supported the NO vote, ads that suggested that the NO side would be better for Black voters. Lots of uninformed voters and older people were very confused, which I have no doubt led to the closeness of the vote. But once the YES side came out finally came out with the clear message of "If you want to stop Trump, vote YES," I knew YES would win. |
The rest of the state can be the new West Virginia. Seems like trying to lose weight by cutting off your legs, but whatever. |
the law keeps the commission in place and makes clear this is a temporary measure. |
| I am failing to understand the crocodile tears from the right on the Virginia vote. Texas started this mess at the behest of Trump. Texas could have ignored it, but didn't. |
Thank you Gavin Newsom. He should be seriously considered as a cabinet position in the next Democratic White House. |
