Meridian is not FCPS |
Are you actually engaging your brain and asking good questions? That's not allowed. You are supposed to "what about" any doubts you have away. |
That was her point. Nearby school systems have much nicer facilities. |
Fcps could assume responsibility for the afterschool program and pay for it. |
It's odd that the county has been paying for it all this time. FCPS where are our tax $ going? |
This is what needs to happen. It seems clear the county isn't interested in helping. It's worth reminding everyone that members of our BOS are elected, not appointed, and many of them probably have higher political aspirations. Think about their priorities next time you vote. |
I don't feel like we get much from the county. The cost of MSAS is not high. I don't see why this program was singled out for cutting. |
The BOS is getting irritated that FCPS is making no cuts. They keep adding onto budget requests but not actually making any cuts. I think if FCPS made some cuts things would be different. |
The county’s budget proposes $60 million in cuts. MSAS is just one of them and would save $4 million. Fcps cut nothing and asked the county for the highest transfer ever. |
I agree cuts could be made in FCPS, especially at the top. The BOS and our other elected officials also need to do their part and tell the rest of the state to start funding themselves. It's time to get off the NOVA gravy train. |
A big reason NCS put the middle school after school program up for cuts, is because NCS already offers free programming for teens at their community centers and teen centers (not to be confused with Park Authority’s Rec Centers). NCS also offers limited transportation. Can it totally replace the MSAS program, probably not. But it offers an alternative. |
I wrote to mine and she dismissed it - she said NCS proposed the cut and there was nothing she could do. |
This is ridiculous. |
It doesn't sound like that's a very popular program. NCS should cut that. As pp noted, the rec centers do not offer much at all for MS or teens. No one knows about this mystery program they offer or their 'limited transportation'. It makes much more sense to provide the after school programming where the students are...at school. |
What's the difference between a "Park Authority" rec center and a "teen center" and a "community center"?
I have never heard of any of this wonderful, free programming for teens and kids. Where is this information published? |
