The majority of federal spending goes to things like Medicare/Medicaid, Social Security, Defense, and interest on the debt. We have a huge debt and a huge deficit. All the other stuff is peanuts compared to the things listed above. So the “good” that more taxes represents would be reducing the deficit and, if taxed enough, reducing the debt. The only other long term choice is to cut the spending things listed above. Which do you want?

Harris is also planning to eliminate spousal IRAs for families with an AGI over about 225k. My finra advisor has told me to keep my 2025 IRA contribution in a savings account until the 2025 budget is voted on for this reason. They tried to ram this through in Secure 2.0 but struck it down to get the bill through. Democrats will keep stuffing it in until it passes. The idea is to eliminate retirement accounts that are not employer sponsored for Millennials and below.

Oh they will create new taxes for very high earners but the numbers won’t account for inflation and it will eventually impact two working professionals.

I would guess there are a lot of retirees in similar situations. Social security can be a true lifeline for people who never made enough to build up a sizable retirement fund. It's guaranteed income. We need something for people who are too old to work.

It's going to run out at some point. There will undoubtedly be people who paid into it who don't get it back. We should gradually shift in that direction so it's controlled. Maybe eliminating it by 2-3% each year would get us there.

Ouch. With state taxes, we'll be paying a marginal rate of greater than 50% taxes. That's just too much.

All this scaremongering about "Harris Taxes" is just that. She has to say these things to make sure some of the 'poorly educated' and commies in her party come out to vote. Assuming she wins and also gets the house and senate, she will not have the mandate to pass these. Almost every member of Congress works for (1) Israel (2) The Rich. Even assuming (2) is wrong, several of them will be from right-leaning seats and will not support steep tax increases. Unlike Trump, Harris can't do squat to unseat them so they can vote without fear and they are not going to vote in a way that hurts their pocketbook.
