Wizards and Caps could be moving to Potomac Yard

Everyone loses. DC gets more crime and more blight in Chinatown. VA gets more traffic and crime in Potomac Yard while VA taxpayers get hosed paying for a percentage of the new arena's construction. MD has to deal with longer and more inconvenient trips to Caps games, Wizards games, and other events.

Actually, MD ends up losing the least.

MD residents benefit because they will be saving money by not attending Caps or Wizards games.

I live in upper NW and am unconvinced this is true. I think the development may well be a draw. Time will tell. I get people are upset but some of that should be directed toward DC leadership who really muffed this and who have let the city quality of life decline. Leonsis won't be the last to move out of DC and when revenues are much lower, changes may be forced.

Fine by me. Maybe it will bring the prices of tickets down. Getting into DC sucks and with crime increasing in the area, a change will be nice.

It’s interesting because I once stopped by the Oxon Hill, MD Target across the bridge and there were hardly any VA plates. I guess a lot of MD residents like making the trip to Potomac Yard?? Or is it because a lot of MD residents commute to NoVA for work and go by Potomac Yard on the way home?

Those plates are from just over the river PG County. That is different than the people who generally are going to Caps games.

No, it is about geography. PG county is closer to Potomac Yards than parts of Fairfax. But neither are convenient for people who live in the northern and western suburbs of both VA and MD. That is why it makes sense to keep the teams and venue in town, so everyone has about the same travel to get to it.

See how much the fan base drops when you move the team to Virginia. As an example, look at what happened to the "DC" NFL team. Within 5 years, Dan Snyder not withstanding, fan interest and attendance at Raljon, fell off the cliff.

But literally, it's probably just as easy to get to Potomac Yard from MoCo (you can take AL bridge to parkway or 495 all the way around to route 1 or telegraph) then it is to literally drive through all of DC to get to Judiciary Square/Chinatown. Potomac Yard and Cap One arena are about 3 miles apart. You pitching a fit over 3 miles, then stay home.

Your clearly do not drive much around here. Former Old Town and current MoCo resident here. PY is in the middle of some of the worst traffic in NoVa.

I lived in Old Town pre- Potomac Yards development, when residents fought having the Redskins stadium built there.

I think Potomac Yard is easier and faster to reach from some areas in MoCo and PG county than downtown.

I'm a Caps fan living in MD and I'll go to Potomac Yard with my kids, one of whom plays hockey in MoCo.

You need to dial down the drama a few dozen notches.
