Your statement still doesn't make sense. The military was the first public institution to integrate. So the doors opened for military service as a path to social mobility far before any path apart from black colleges. I am not accusing you of saying the military is full of the KKK, but it is a common lefty talking point. And you adding the military to the list of what wasn't available to black men 60 years ago is a historical when integrated units were created in 1948 and prior to that, the Buffalo solider units were gaining fame. Also contrary to your immediate pp, it was not only college educated and middle class blacks that joined-- working class blacks were enlisted at high rates. The reason that you hear about that less is that the military is lauded as a tool of social mobility for black officers because, it is thought, they faced less discrimination than in the civilian job market. You erred when you said that 60 years ago, the military was an option for southern white boys but not southern black boys. That is not correct. |
Now you’re just making stuff up to serve your own bias. If property in a white community is more valuable than a predominantly black community then why is real estate in NE DC more expensive than most places in west virginia? A white working class family in Hagerstown, MD would see zero real estate appreciation while a black family in Shaw could sell for hundreds of thousands more than 20 years ago. |
Men beat their wives and children in Bethesda too. Sexual abuse is found among all income levels and regions of the world. You are just as biased as some rural yokel talking about the horrible crime in DC. |
Sigh. You’re not thinking about this objectively because you’re so busy trying to feel like you’re a victim. Yes, some black neighborhoods have appreciated more than some white ones. However, black families were explicitly denied the right to buy houses in the kind of neighborhoods which have seen the largest (not large, largest) growth in prices. What do you think the impact of those laws were? And, when they were forced by those laws into housing purchases in areas which have absolutely not appreciated, what impact do you think that has had on the ability to amass generational wealth? |
This is want DeSantis wants. A country full of ignoramuses what are oblivious to the history of reclining in this country. |
|
Dang auto correct...
Red lining, not reclining! |
People denyingthis obviously don't live in DC. This happens litteraly everyday. There are a half dozen fatal shootings each week. He's not lying and he didn't run off. He just grew tired of explaining th etruth to liberal fools ho question reality from San Francisco. |
+ 1 million |
he clearly is a far right nutbag trying to appear "center" so lower income democrats don't hate him He is just as bad as those rich men up north. He'll do whatever he can to make it big. |
DP. No one has ever denied that these things happen in Bethesda, but people saying rural white folks don't murder their neighbors and ignore their families is full of shit. Anyone who has ever lived in a rural area can attest to that if they're honest. My small town NC high school class produced more than its fair share of murderers. |
|
Funny how the things he complains about - low wages and no overtime - are the direct result of Republican opposition to increase minimum wage and to reduce overtime to "comp time".
And the BS about the FBI investigating people for voicing their opinions is total BS. The FBI investigated people who MADE THREATS at school board meetings. |
Most immigrants arrive without any generational wealth and do well in just 1-2 generations. There are much more important factors at play than whatever happened 3-4-5 generations ago. |
Dp. Even with your own analysis, some white people are less advantaged than some black people. So it doesn't make sense to give, say, a MoCo black person advantages over an Appalachian white person in the interest of equity, since the Moco person has more opportunity than the Appalachian person. Race can't be the single factor under consideration. |
*Sigh is right. Please try to understand my actual argument. I understand the history of redlining. I understand that people experience present day disadvantages based on historical injustice. I don’t understand why a wealthy black family that didn’t experience redlining in DC should be given preference over a hispanic working class immigrant family just because of skin color. Why not distribute assistance based on need rather than skin color or group identity? Any black family that is in need due to historic injustice will get assistance with the added benefit of not using government to drive a wedge between working class people of different ethnicities. |
Your particular class in a small town produced multiple murderers? I find it hard to believe that those statistics are typical for your small town, but yes, murders happen anywhere. |
