Is Atheism a religion without a church or temple ?

Seems like there is only one insulting religious person here, and several atheist responders. At least there are two - me and someone else.

If that is the case, it's heartening, because it suggests that it's not religion per se that makes some people nasty -- it's just their personality.

A cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith.
I think a lot of atheists use faith to describe what caused the Big Bang by saying something came from nothing.
To believe in this something came from nothing you have to belong in the religion of Atheism.

I agree to some extent.

The existence of God can neither be proven or disproven. It requires faith as well as reason to either believe or disbelieve in God

I don’t think I would go so far as to refer to atheism as a religion though. At least not a formal one.

Yeah. The people I know who are sincerely religious are nice. The people who use it to shield their inner nature are truly vile deep down.

Atheism is not a religion. Faith is not required to not believe in God, just as it doesn't take faith to not believe in Santa Claus.

There are no rites or ceremonies associated with being an atheist. It is simply not believing in god.

Unfortunately, some believers are taught to hate/distrust people who don't believe in God. Hopefully, they're in the minority.
