Can I wait until Mon. to Wed. to buy Thanksgiving ingredients?

Anonymous
I'm hosting this year, I don't want to buy the ingredients a week in advance. Just wondering if the grocery stores (like Whole Foods) tend to run out a few days before Tahnksgiving? TIA!

Even if it did, I'm sure some grocery story would have ingredients -- maybe the new Giant on O Street?

I once had to go to several stores to find fresh sage on the Tuesday before..but I did find it.

Buy the non perishables, roots and the turkey now. You need to start defrosting it tomorrow so no reason to wait.

Get the greens and mushrooms on Monday so they are fresh.

Last year we bailed on driving to the in-laws on Wednesday (barking dog, howling baby, just couldn't face the 4 hour drive). We had basically emptied out the fridge since we were leaving for 5 days. We had no food--but put together a really good Thanksgiving dinner with no real difficulty. We got most of our supplies (including the Turkey) at Trader Joe's.

Hi OP. So far I've bought all my non perishables. This weekend I will be buying my root vegetables (potatoes, carrots, celery) and probably my cranberries and herbs too.

On Wednesday I'm picking up my fresh turkey, pies, rolls and hopefully fresh green beans if they have them!

I usually do my shopping at Whole Foods on Tuesday when I pick up my turkey and have not had any problems getting what I need. Of course one needs the proper constitution and frame of mind to voluntarily go to Whole Foods on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving but if you go early or late it's fine.

I've never had a problem finding stuff, but have had a problem keeping my sanity shopping Wednesday (and no, I never learn to shop ahead).

I've never had a problem. I go the Tuesday before to WF, get my turkey and all else I need.

Mushrooms?

I'm not the PP you're quoting, but we always have fresh mushrooms in the stuffing every year. Yum.

If you plan on getting a fresh turkey, you shouldn't have any trouble up to Wednesday night. Whole Foods has plenty in stock. A lot of grocery stores are open Thursday morning too.

Mushrooms?

Love your reaction.

Yes mushrooms.

I dice them and add them to the stuffing. Yum. I also make a veggie appetizer that incorporates mushrooms.

Same. Except I go to Wegmans. I get DD a cocoa and a doughnut, settle her in the giant car cart, get a giant latte and away we go! This week I am guessing I'll be there at least twice before Thursday.

If you have something very specific, like fresh sage, or fresh any other kind of herb, get it when you see it. Other than that, some store will have all the basics.
