I recently had a cancer scare and while we seem to have gotten it all, I am facing a significant risk of recurrence.
Aside from the medical course of action i am pursuing to reduce this risk, I have vowed to improve my diet to include more fruits and vegetables, eating more organically, avoiding plastic containers, and generally live a healthier lifestyle to improve my chances further. Anyone been here before? Any tips for a newbie in this area for reducing cancer risk? Book reccos? |

Good for you, OP. You're on the right track to health!
Reduce red meat and sugar products. Take a look at the books at Whole Foods. Maybe your library has some of them. Fresh air, exercise a little every day. Stay with good thoughts. |
| There is actually a great book called Anti-Cancer. |
| Less plastic? Can you please explain why? |
|
Anti inflammatory diet.
Vitamin D |
| Exercise. I am at risk for cancer because of some medication that I take and from everything I've read, regular exercise is key to reducing that risk. |
| Be careful, because advice can easily turn into quackery in this area. But certainly, reducing or eliminating red meat, sugar, alcohol, while trying to eat mainly vegetables, fruit, and whole grains is a good way forward. Try to incorporate exercise into your day as much as possible, eg walking or biking to work, taking stairs instead of elevator. |
| Eliminate dairy, meat and soy |

The American Cancer Society recommends keeping within 20lbs of a normal weight and regular exercise.
Not only do these steps help prevent cancer, but also help you fight cancer in the event that is reoccurs. On a side note, I started regularly exercising 3 years ago and lost 40lbs. I have not been sick since. I cannot seem to get sick, no matter what. I strongly think it has to do with choosing an healthy lifestyle. I also have a primarily plant based diet. I eat Vegan two full days a week. |
| Replace your regular meat with pastured animal meat. |
Seems like you will never get sick and will live forever. Lucky you! |

Eat, Drink and Be Healthy by Walter C. Willett, MD
which is the Harvard Medical School guide to healthy eating Willett is the guru on nutrition Also, Dr. Andrew Weil has some great books. He was all over the problem of inflammation before the medical profession caught up. he's got a website drweil.com and sends me a daily tip (been getting it for years). One of his books, "Eight Weeks to Optimum Health" is a plan to turn your environment and habits around in 8 weeks. Finally, research light at night…especially in the blue or green spectrum, as disruptive….it's a long story but bottom line, after you do the research the fix is to tape over those LED lights in your bedroom (smoke detector) with black electrical tape and get an alarm clock with red or no light. You'll sleep better, too! Go, OP, go! |
