| There was a reference to bulk & cut cycles on the Beauty board. I've googled, but most of what I'm seeing is for people who want to bulk up weight=lifter style. I'm curious to hear from anyone who does this, but for a lean, trim body. I'm all for periods of heavy lifting and no cardio! How long are your cycles? |
| why would you bulk if you want a lean, trim body? Also 9 times out of 10, bulking goes too far and is an excuse to gorge. If you already eat clean, than just up your intake by a few hundred calories and go from there. |
| That's why I'd like to hear about it from the person who claimed they do it, but still maintains a small size. I go through heavy lifting periods and I don't eat junk, just focus on more protein. I'm looking for personal experience. |
I'd like to hear too! I'm naturally lean and have NEVER been able to bulk, but I would LOVE to bring more definition to my already strong body. |
| You bulk because part of having a lean, trim body is to have more muscle and less fat. You can't effectively do both at the same time so you put on the muscle (bulk) and then cut the fat while retaining the muscle. If you're happy with your muscle, then don't bulk. |

second post here - I've bulked once. Went from 6 ft tall, 135 lbs to 155 lbs. Put on some fat but like all bulks that is inevitable. Have now grown to about 175. Again, I have more body fat now than when I was 135, but that just happens with a bulk.
135-155 was a relatively dirty bulk - just added more calories wherever I could, including a nightly bowl of cereal for example. 155-175 took place over the course of 2-3 years and was much cleaner. At the fastest, I was able to put on roughly a 1/2 pound to pound a week relatively cleanly. I can cut from 175 to 165 pretty easily, hitting down to 160 is difficult with legitimate deep hunger pains. Just set an ideal weight and take your time getting there. Once you are there, be conscious and cut back on your calories so you start losing some fat while making sure your weightlifting numbers are the same. Rinse, repeat, until you are where you want. |
