Go ahead and flame me, but I'm on the fence about public/private as we are in a good Moco district, but our kid is shy and withdraws in large groups. Developmentally fine (of course we think she's brilliant, but we'll see). We really can't afford the Big 3, but probably won't qualify for aid. We can probably do max about $22k/year without being wildly irresponsible. We're looking for K right now.
I am aware of Primary Day, Stone Ridge, and the local parish parochial schools, but wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything. We're in close-in Bethesda, so open to Bethesda, NWDC, etc. Our ideal fantasy schools would be very warm and nurturing socially, not too big, and challenging academically. TIA |
| Have you looked at Christ Episcopal in Rockville? I think it's about $16,000. |
| Grace Episcopal |
| Thanks all |
| Parochials have large class sizes. |
CES certainly doesn't. |
| NPS? |
| NPS is over 25k |
| Primary Day and Stoneridge are way out of your budget. Only parochials might fit. Sorry. This is why we exited the private system. |
| Concord Hill School is $24K. |

Washington Waldorf. My kid was your kid years ago. The academics are there, just not in a way you're used to seeing. Heck, the one of the Nobel Prize winners for science is a Waldorf School graduate.
Check out WWS at the Bazaar this weekend (and be sure to look at the room where the older kids' workbooks are displayed so you'll understand where the academics go in the older grades). Then take a tour and ask as many questions as you need. I almost didn't tour and only reluctantly did so at the last minute so I wouldn't question my decision process later. The private education consultant who I happened to tour with (so I wasn't a client) said to me "a child can get a fabulous education here if the parent has the courage to send them to WWS." |
Primary Day and Concord Hill end in 2nd and 3rd grades. Most of the kids continue in private. While this might give you time to help your daughter come out of your shell, consider how she might feel is she can't continue on with her friends. |
| Stone Ridge seems like it might be a great fit for your daughter. |
Stoneridge is $22,500 for tuition. |
Thank you. We are looking hard at Stone rRidge, though maybe as an option after a few years of our local parish school ( little flower). |
