Don't need to lose weight - but want to tone stomach?

Anonymous
I joined a gym a couple of weeks ago and am feeling great - I go to a couple of high intensity cardio/strength/core classes a week, yoga twice (with a 2-3 miles run beforehand) and Pilates once. I'm hoping to do another cardio/strength class on the weekends, too. My goal isn't to lose weight - I'm 5'5" and 120 lbs - but I want to be fit and toned, especially in my stomach and arms. My stomach is just soft right now... am I on the right path to toning up my stomach? What classes are best for that?

My cardio/strength class is a nonstop hour of crunches, planks, burpees, pushups (with a lot of hand weights)... I'm doing that twice a week and love it. I also love the Pilates class because of the attention to core. I'd love to hear what others did that really worked!

Thanks for the suggestion. I will look into the DVD for home but was hoping the combo of gym classes 5-6 times a week plus 50-100 crunches and planks at home might do the trick... willing to spend the time on a DVD if necessary. Just wanting to see if I'm doing the right stuff at the gym! Total newbie here.

Lay on your bed, with your butt at the edge of the bed, and legs off. Keep your hands at your side, or under your head.

Keep your legs together and straight, and SLOWLY bring them up and down - down past the bed, up as far as you can go. Do it very slowly, and try to really hone in only only using the muscles in your core. You'll feel the burn in your lower abs after a few of these.

What you are doing should do the trick - pilates will help your core (as long as you have good form, otherwise it will be counterproductive) and vinyasa yoga is good for both core and arms.

Pilates is your answer for toned stomach

Especially "Pilates one hundred" that is a basic piltes core excersise. You can add that to any program you do and do it everyday first thing in the morning.

Here is just an example
