Where to go out for Thanksgiving?

So my inlaws and my mother are coming for Thanksgiving. All are approaching 90 y.o., and my mother has been in the hospital IN CALIFORNIA for over SIX MONTHS and they are letting her out to get on a plane to come for 2.5 weeks.
Combine this threesome with my kids, and even with DH's help, I know am going to be everyone's servant for the duration. Everyone needs my help with even the basic tasks. How many pairs of socks am I going to have to put on each morning? LOL So a friend suggested maybe DH and I take everyone out for Thanksgiving…that will save me the prep/cooking and most importantly, the clean up job. Does anyone recommend any place good? We are in Arlington a little north of Ballston, but we could travel into the District if it would be a nice experience, or perhaps if there was somewhere that was a uniquely "DC" experience. thank you! |

+1 for ordering from Balduccis. We did it last year for Christmas, prices were fairly reasonable, I thought, and everything tasted really good. If the sides are the same as Christmas, I recommend the Brussels sprouts.
We went to Chef Geoffs last year for Thanksgiving and the food was good. It was a little loud though. Make sure you choose a place that isn't doing a buffet. It would be difficult for a frail 90 year old to navigate. |

I have to agree that you may regret planning on taking everyone out.
I'm kind of amazed at your mother's story. My elderly mother was in the hospital for a long time last year and was weak as a kitten when she came home. Good for your mom for getting on a plane. |

OP here: Yep my mom is a real pistol, but frankly, I'm nervous about it. She's SO much work. So I begged her to bring a family friend--to chaperone her on the flight and basically, take care of her while she is here, but NOOOOO. She got all mad at me, and said, "I don't know why you act like I'm a burden. No one else thinks I'm a burden. I'm completely independent!"---this said from a hospital bed with a full nursing staff to bring her every meal, administer every medication, and bathe and shower her. And a private duty nurse who runs errands for her! Don't get me wrong, I am so lucky to have her; just wish she would allow me to do it a little more on my own terms so it would be easier for me. |

| Carmine's has an amazing Thanksgiving Day dinner. Plus, they give you all the leftovers since it's served family style. If you don't want to eat there, they will prepare the entire meal and you can pick it up. Love them! |
