Info on hyattsville elementary schools?

We are considering moving to the Hyattsville area and am wondering if I can get any general feedback on Hyattsville elementary schools. My co-worker said all PG county schools should be avoided and I'm wondering if that's the case, or if it varies school by school, etc. Thanks in advance.

I don't know specifically about Hyattsville. Although I have heard that it is a growing community, so I do believe there is a network of dedicated parents.

As for your coworker, has he or she every lived in PG? Does he or she actually have any direct experience with the schools? I have found that most people who say things like that actually don't know anything about PG.

I live in Bowie and we are zoned for a very good elementary school. I know parents who send their children there, and they are happy. I also know parents who send their children to the middle school, and they are happy. And I know some recent grads of the high school, and they are in college now and doing well.

So, yes, there are schools in PG county that are good. A lot depends on the specific area you are in and the school you are zoned for.

The Great Schools rating is a good place to start, but it's also helpful to hear feedback from people who actually live in PG.

I'm the PP above, and I would add that you really should post this in the "PG County Schools" forum.

Jeff made a separate forum for PG County because every time someone tried to get information, there would be a flood of people who don't live in PG and have little experience there posting a lot of negative stuff.

You should post this in the PG County Schools forum. They have their own forum because this forum is used mostly to discuss Montgomery County schools and occasionally Howard County.

In case you wondered -- there is a separate forum for PG County schools to help them avoid the opinions of people like your co-worker, who probably don't have kids in PGCPS and may not even live in PG County but nonetheless somehow know for sure that all PG County schools are to be avoided.

I live in PG. It's a school by school basis. I'd certainly avoid dome areas. In the areas you are probably looking, it will most likely be a middle school and high school problem. I think The CEO might do some good in the county.

Post in the PG forum. I think there are several DCUM readers in that area.
