We are considering moving to the Hyattsville area and am wondering if I can get any general feedback on Hyattsville elementary schools. My co-worker said all PG county schools should be avoided and I'm wondering if that's the case, or if it varies school by school, etc. Thanks in advance.
I don't know specifically about Hyattsville. Although I have heard that it is a growing community, so I do believe there is a network of dedicated parents. As for your coworker, has he or she every lived in PG? Does he or she actually have any direct experience with the schools? I have found that most people who say things like that actually don't know anything about PG. I live in Bowie and we are zoned for a very good elementary school. I know parents who send their children there, and they are happy. I also know parents who send their children to the middle school, and they are happy. And I know some recent grads of the high school, and they are in college now and doing well. So, yes, there are schools in PG county that are good. A lot depends on the specific area you are in and the school you are zoned for. The Great Schools rating is a good place to start, but it's also helpful to hear feedback from people who actually live in PG.
