I'm 8-week pregnant and have started having less bowl movement in the past few weeks. I eat healthy and exercise 15 minutes or so on a daily basis. I hate prune juice, which is what my OB recommends. Has anyone tried anything else that worked to relief constipation? |
Drink lots of water and up your fiber (raisin bran, any of the Kashi cereals) then drink more water!!! |
Drink plenty of wate rand take 15-30 minutes walks. |
Try that yogurt that keeps you regular - I am blanking on the name...Activa? |
I chowed down on apples and carrots and second PPs of water and exercise.
Also, check your pre natal vitamin - some have stool softeners which are very helpful! |
Oat bran and dried fruit. And lotsa water. And good luck! |
Fiber One bars are the best!
They actually taste good and will help you get things moving. I would eat two of them a day sometimes - they were so addicting. |
Banana/strawberry / berry smoothies with yogurt....works like a charm due to the fiber and yogurt cultures (and good for ya, too!). I have one almost each morning and have not had any bowel issues (and I suffer from IBS normally). I replaced my morning cup of coffee with this, and probably won't go back.
My recipe: one banana 4-6 strawberries, depending on size (I prefer the frozen organic ones at Harris Teeter or Trader Joes, since they stay fresh longer) 1 large tbsp raspberry sorbet Sometimes I throw in 10 or so frozen organic blueberries, too 1/3 cup vanilla or fruit yogurt (or a couple of table spoons) 1/2 cup ice. Cranberry juice or Orange juice to get the right consistency while blending. I kind of judge on the sizes of what I throw in, but it's sooo good and totally does the trick. The sorbet adds a little bit of sweetness (Haagen Daz raspberry is best!) YUM! |
I've had the same problem throughout my pregnancy, and what works for me is a bowl of Flax Plus breakfast cereal in the morning, prunes (but don't eat too many) or other dried fruits as snacks, and a couple of 8oz servings of kefir - that's just a drinkable yogurt. For some reason I can't stand eating most brands of yogurt, I just prefer to drink it!
Look in the natural foods aisle for Flax Plus brand cereal, it's usually not with the regular cereal. I like the raisin bran, which has 11g of fiber per serving but doesn't taste like a bran bomb went off in your mouth. Eating oatmeal and a good amount of fresh fruits and veggies throughout the day helps a lot too! If you hate all of the above, you can always just get Benefiber, which you mix into your food or drink. It's flavorless and dissolves completely. |
take psyllium husk powder (or just metamucil) everyday. i'm on my second pregnancy in 2 years and this is the only thing that has kept me sane. i mix it with orange juice and take it when i take my vitamins. |
Double your water intake and KIWIS! They worked for me. |
OP here. Thank YOU ALL for helpful advises! I'm so happy to know that I'm not the only one.... I did have my first bowl movement in a week tonight ![]() |
I had the same problem. This is what worked best for me: DanActive light (with less sugar content), lots of water, Metamucil (2 x day), plenty of homemade spinach puree, prunes, oranges, whole grain breads, walking every day and relaxing. |
Prune juice and dried apricots worked for me! |
beets, plum juice (from sunsweet; at most Giant grocery stores), cantaloupe, ground flax seed, watermelon, prune juice, organic pear cidar (sold at eastern market), uncle sam cereal, and this german fitness bread sold at Yes Organic Market and other places.
I am an expert in this field! |
