| Looking to buy in chevy chase, MD in the next year with a budget of around 1 million. I'm getting frustrated though because it seems as though even for that price we'll still be looking at either small homes or fixer- uppers. Is that just the reality of the area?? |
| Yes - that is the reality of the area. |
| You are not going to find a large modern home in the area for that amount. You could certainly find a decent place though for that amount if you are willing to make some compromises. |
| Depends. In Somerset, legitimate teardowns are $950Kish. In North Chevy Chase, a 20-year-old 5-BR, 3 1/2 BA colonial sold this year for $1.05M. Regardless of area, almost everything in that price range sold for more than asking in less than two weeks. |
| Don't forget Rock Creek Forest (aka Cheap Chevy Chase). You could buy a lot (or have $$ left over for remodeling) with $1M. |
| Question: How do you define Chevy Chase MD? |
20815, baby. Signed, raised in 20815 |
+1 Signed, another 20815 native still living there (no, not in my parents' house) |
| Define "not small" and "not a fixer upper." But the short answer is no, I personally can't find a home that has everything on my ideal house list for under $1 million. I've found some "decent but missing a thing or two I'd really like" houses in that range. |
| Sure, look in the area around Grubb Road. |
|
The question you should be asking is:
Can we afford not to live in Chevy Chase? |
Hehe. I lol at this. |
| OP here- ideally, we'd like something that has an updated kitchen, at least 3 bedrooms, a basement, and is south of east west highway. I know, I know...keep dreaming, right? |
Have you looked east of Brookville? |
You won't find anything updated for less than $1M east of Brookville either. The only houses under this price point either need work or only have 2 bedrooms upstairs unless you're willing to go north of EW Hwy. There tends to be more stock at this price in Chevy Chase, DC, but again, you're not going to find anything very big or updated. |
