Have you looked east of Brookville?

You won't find anything updated for less than $1M east of Brookville either. The only houses under this price point either need work or only have 2 bedrooms upstairs unless you're willing to go north of EW Hwy. There tends to be more stock at this price in Chevy Chase, DC, but again, you're not going to find anything very big or updated.

You may have to put a bit of $ into this to get what you your dream home.... but definitely under $1 million.

If OP is looking for TRUE Chevy Chase - aka - away from EW Highway, these options are not attractive.

Now this one....yes! http://www.redfin.com/MD/Chevy-Chase/4103-Blackthorn-St-20815/home/10642770

Why is "true" chevy chase away from the EW Highway? Who made you the judge of what true chevy chase is?
Anonymous
What's the significance of being east of Brookville? Isn't it still CCMD on the other side?
Anonymous
Yes, but the lots are smaller so the houses are a little cheaper overall.

Can we afford not to live in Chevy Chase?

LOL - "true Chevy Chase." Apparently this is a real thing with some. I live north of EW Highway in CCMD and a friend once told me it wasn't "real Chevy Chase." Whatever. My kids go to the same schools, my home still appreciates ridiculously well, and there are plenty of perfectly nice people up here in Untrue Chevy Chase. OP, definitely use arbitrary boundaries to restrict your search - we don't do the snob thing quite so well all the way over here in The Other Chevy Chase, even if we are five minutes away from where you're gonna pay $1m for a gut job.

what about these options?

OP said she wanted something for under $1M that wasn't tiny and didn't need a ton of work. All of those houses are tiny or need a fair amount of work (I've seen the 2 on Cummings and they both only have 2 bedrooms upstairs).

Or you can live in the Really Untrue Chevy Chase: the parts of Silver Spring and Kensington that feed into BCC. Oh, the horror.
Anonymous
The smallness of those homes has to be seen to be truly appreciated.

What is it about CC MD that attracts you? Perhaps we can suggest other places that are comparable but meet your needs.
