Do homeschoolers pay the same taxes as everyone else or do they get a discount?

Anonymous
Curious. I meet a lot of home schooled kids, many live in nice areas with high taxes that help ay foe area schools

Everyone pays school taxes, they're paid for out of property taxes. Public school is available for everyone; if you opt out the entire cost of that choice is shifted to you.

Shouldn't everyone who doesn't have kids also get a discount by your insane logic?
Anonymous
Good grief. Yes, homeschoolers pay the same taxes as everyone else. Taxes for schools are not user fees.

Methinks a few homeschoolers are throwing out a bunch of random posts to demonstrate there is enough traffic for a separate homeschooling forum.

This is one that would cause a strong reaction and thus increase traffic.

It's a new kind of troll--The Traffic Troll

I agree--someone recently asked Jeff for a homeschooling forum and he said there isn't enough traffic. In the last few days there have been an inordinate number of posts on homeschooling. I wonder if they are all started by the same 1-2 people

There is a homeschooling forum. It is called Mothering.com.

Yes but it would be great of there was a local one for the DC metro area since this area is loaded with homeschoolers. I think there should be a sub forum here

No, it's not. This is a pretty liberal area. Homeschooling is the domain of religious nut jobs, although a few "crunch mamas" have tried to jump on the bandwagon in recent years.

How about that. I'm not a religious nut job (in fact, I'm non-religious). I'm also not a "crunch mama" (whatever that means). And I've homeschooled.

Since you're so smart, then, you know full well that you're an anomaly? Maybe all the religiously themed curricula you encountered when searching for materials might have served as a clue?

Homeschooling is a fringe activity. It doesn't need validation in this forum or Web site.
