In every other season I can get by with cute flats, but now it's too cold. What can I wear with thin socks? The past few days I've resorted to my Merrill boots, but it's not really the look I'm going for. Non-work days I'm in jeans and work days it's basically black pants/cords because I'm not a big fan of stockings. After reading all the great skin care recommendations, I have high hopes for the fashion advice from this group! |
what about other-than-merrel boots? there are some cute flat boots out there, i think. dansko clogs, maybe? not sure if you're looking for work or non-work recs. |
How about a Mary Jane style? Lots of them can be worn with socks. Or a wool clog--Haflinger makes some pretty embroidered ones, and they really do keep your feet warm.
I do love my Dansko clogs, too. They're awesome in all weather. |
I wear Franco Sarto shoes to work in the winter. Not as cute as my summer shoes, but I can wear thin socks with them. I have a brown pair and a black pair - think loafers with about a 1 inch heel.
I am also a fan of knee-high boots with a skirt (I hate nylons as well, there's only a wee bit of my knee exposed, so I can skip the hose). If you don't like the leather look (which I don't) there are some microfiber or soft knit ones. Ugg has a super-cute wool knit boot in fun colors (maybe not for work) |
Suede driving moccasins. |
I am not a flats person, so I do not know if I can be of much help. But if you're looking for a warm shoe that will be comfortable and appropriate for the office or for play, you might want to consider something like this:
http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/36753242/c/328.html I bought a bunch of Clark's ankle boots about 3 years ago, when the selection was a bit better. I still wear them all the time & I love them. |
I love knee-high boots, with a flat heel. It's made me start wearing skirts again. |
Since you asked for fashion advice, here it is. Clogs are ugly. Really ugly. There are lot more fashionable flats that won't kill your feet. Look on the Nordstrom website endless.com. I also recommend Franco Sarto, some Sofft shoes are cute (not all), and there are some really nice low heeled Bandolino short boots that look great with pants. |
I also just bought a pair of Clark's knee high boots "December" -- love them! |
Hurrah for 11:58!! I can't believe posters are responding to a request for *fashion* advice with Dansko clogs and Clarks! No shortage of sharp low-heeled boots this season. I'd wear 'em myself if I were taller, but I need my 3-inch heels to keep my trouser hems off the floor! |
You're a snob. Clark's makes some great shoes. I got these boot yesterday: http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/34119866/c/72.html Are they fabulous? Yes, they are fashionable, comfortable, and fabulous! |
Snobby 16:31 here... On the first assertion (snobbishness), you're probably right. On two of the others (fabulousness in particular), I respectfully disagree, though I do own an old pair of Clarks myself.
The boots are perfectly nice, especially the upper part. I'm not as well-schooled on this year's fashionable heel and toe as I have been in less busy, better paid years, but the wide toe and stubby, clompy heel look a little matronly to me. Not completely inappropriate, since we're all matrons here, right? But we're not supposed to look like it! That said, I'm looking forward to a winter with a lot more time and excuses for walking and may well order myself some more sensible boots (with a slightly higher heel ![]() For OP, I'd suggest a flat boot rather than a short-heeled boot. |
Flat riding boots. I am on the short side and thought they wouldn't look good, but now that I'm pregnant, I prefer flats over my heeled shoes and boots. LOVE THEM. (Got Ralph Lauren ones from Zappos.) They look so good with everything, especially dresses. I love them even more than regular flats.
Bonus - I feel like a bad ass in them! |
Yeah, seriously, clogs? clarks? knit Uggs? ugh... ick... eeewwww... Boots are the way to go in the winter (but not knit ones :evil![]() ![]() |
Frye boots are lovely and look great under jeans, as long as your pants are long enough...that means skimming the floor. Anything else is too short!
I still love a flat with socks. No one sees the socks and they look great. |
