Anyone driving the luxury cars? And what's your income?

Anonymous
In another thread "New car and income", it seems there are very few people driving the luxury cars even if their HHI is >1M. This sounds unbelievable.
So if you or your s/o do drive a luxury car, please chime in and let us know your HHI.
While there is no exact definition of luxury cars, let's just say those common names such as MB, BMW, Audi, Porsch, Infiniti, Acura, Lexus, etc. Please don't argue with me the definition of the luxury cars because that's not the point.

My impression is that, perhaps because of other cost of living issues, people in DC spend a very low percentage of their income on cars. In Atlanta, if you can afford a $150,000 condo, you drive a BMW. In DC, it's common to see a civic parked in front if an $800,000 condo.

Plenty of people in this area are driving luxury cars. You see them all over NW, McLean, Bethesda, Potomac, great falls, etc. We have 2. Income varies but is in the $750k range.

When I worked at a law firm a lot of the young associates making $160k drove luxury cars -- not dcum demographic as they were mostly single and childless. Eight years later most of these people are Feds making $150k or less with small kids. Now on dcum, no luxury car.

OP here.
Please don't share if you don't drive a luxury. You could go to the other thread.

Eight years later you should still be driving the same car. We keep our cars for at least ten years, which helps us pay cash for the next luxury one when the time comes.

Everyone I know drives a luxury car and no one makes 1k. Look at car pool pick up/drop off at the cathedral schools. Look at the stream of cars going down Mass ave into downtown from NW and bethesda... Lots of luxury cars.

$60k car
$300k+ HHI

But I will hold onto it for a long time. I would have also bought a cheaper car if I found one that better met my needs.

When I entered the workforce after being a SAHM for a few years, I bought myself a new Infiniti. We can comfortably live on my husband's income alone, so I wasn't 100% sure why I went back to work. When I bought a car with a $1K monthly payment, at least it was a purpose for me to continue being employed. It was 5 years ago, and I still love my car and enjoy driving it every day. My income was about $57k at that time and has significantly increased since then.

You see a lot Mercedes SUVs in the car pool line at the private schools.

Car is a waste of money where we live, and I'm very happy about that.

We have a 2001 Honda Odyssey minivan - it's a sweet ride. HHI is about $40k.

We only make ~60K since we are young and at the start of our careers, however I drive a 2004 Acura. Around the time I was thinking about buying a car (I was looking for a used Honda civic for under10K), my dad was looking to upgrade and generously offered to give us his car. The car is in great shape, and I intend to drive it until it dies. If we eventually need a second car it will certainly be something much more modest...probably a used honda or Toyota.
