low hCG, high progesterone

Anonymous
I am five weeks pregnant following fertility treatments (injectibles), but I learned today that my hCG is very low (74 - only slightly elevated from a week ago), while my progesterone level is very good. My doc says it is almost certain I will miscarry, although there is a very small chance things might still be okay. I will re-test later this week. I am resigned to this sad news, but just wondering if anyone out there has had a successful pregnancy despite similar stats.

Thanks so much in advance.

You haven't miscarried until you miscarry. My doctor told me I wasn't pregnant or I was about to miscarry...she's due in January.

OP, how long is your cycle? I'm just wondering how far along you "really" are vs. using a 28 day cycle.

good thoughts and hugs to you - been there before myself.

OP here. My cycle is exactly 28 days - ovulated on day 14.

Thanks very much (and to the 7:52 poster as well) for your support. I'm still hoping everything might be okay...

I had a similar situation - hcg #'s were very low and were not multiplying but then after one week they started to multiply like crazy and now I have a happy healthy baby boy.
When you do fertility (Like I did) we get so many blood tests done and over analyze the #'s. The most important thing is that the #'s rise. PPl that dont do fertility only get 1 blood test and it is either a yes or no.
I am not saying that everyone has a success story but there are plenty and keep thinking optimistic and good luck!!!

i had a rocky start to this pregnancy with very low HCG at the start, and loads of bleeding, but my HCG numbers did double.

12DPO: 17
14: 40
16: 77
18: 150
20: 400+

my concern with you is that you said your numbers are only "slightly elevated" from a week ago. can you post your numbers?

OP here - I believe my intial number (14 DPO) was around 70 and at 21 DPO it was only 74. I will test again at 24 DPO, but in comparison to your numbers, mine definitely don't look good! I guess there's still a slim hope that my hCG could surge - but I know it's pretty slim.

Thanks for your support, everyone. I appreciate it.

11:28 here. Wish there was something I could do or say that would make it better for you. I have been to beta hell twice ... once with a good outcome and once with a bad outcome. It's a terrible place to be.

Keep us posted on your next draw, OK?

Will do. Thanks so much again!

I didn't get pg with fertility treatments, but my numbers were really low at the first draw, so dr did another draw and they hadn't gone up much. When I called for the results on the second test the ding-a-ling receptionists just said - wow, that doesn't look good. I didn't even know what the numbers were supposed to do (never had my hCG tested with DD a few yrs ago) so she freaked me out. After the 3rd blood draw they did double, but barely. After the 4th blood draw they finally shot up. I'm 7 months now, so we're doing well.

I hope you are just a slow starter like me and everything will okay. Sending good thoughts your way.

Op here with an update. My numbers took a dive yesterday, so sadly, it looks like this one was not meant to be. I just wanted to thank everyone who sent their good wishes and support. I'm just hoping that my husband and I will get lucky again.

I'm sorry. I hope it works out next time.

The good news is that you DID get pregnant. Don't lose faith, it will work out next time. Best of luck.

This happened to me too. I am so sorry. Talk to your OB - mine put me on a baby aspirin/day and B6 supplements after this happened twice. Took a few more months after that, but I did get a successful pregnancy. Lots of hugs to you.
