Barrie School vs. GDS?

Anonymous
The Barrie School in Silver Spring seems a lot like GDS. Is anyone familiar enough with both to comment on similarities? differences?

Both at very progressive and casual ( students and teachers on a first name basis). The each have excellent academics and were founded to fight discrimination, but other than that?

GDS may have a "micro-campus" but I don't see it as minor league.

You are entitled to your own opinion but Barrie does not compare.

1. Barrie is near Delaware.
2. Barrie does not have a challenging academic offering.
3. Barrie does not matriculate students into the best in the nation (Harvard, Yale, MIT Stanford)

Barrie is probably in the 4th tier in terms of top school behind the following:

First tier: Sidwell, STA, NCS
Second Tier: GDS, Maret, Potomac
Third Tier: Whitman, Wooton, TJ
Fourth Tier: Barrie, Wilson

The two schools aren’t even on the same caliber. Regardless, I don’t know why someone would look at Barrie with a HS grade size of ~15 and also consider GDS with a grade size of ~125. And PP, you're being generous rating Barrie as 4th tier.

The GDS campus may be tiny, but the architecture is inspiring. Ni see a bit of Bahaus in it. N

There was an earlier thread on the matriculation at Barrie School, comparable to GDS.

If you decide to send your kid to school outside of the beltway, you might as well send your kid to boarding school.

TJ, third tier?! No private school compares to TJ.

Life in the bubble. This post should be highlighted to help those baffled by the warped perspective on DCUM.

The view expressed here is pretty typical, which explains why the schools in the bubble struggle to provide a truly diverse perspective. It's okay though, because the little buttercup will surely return to bubble and life among similar folks will be just fine.

Including NCS with Sidwell and STA is the tell tale sign that the person posting this is an NCS booster. NCS is the "weak sister" of STA in every significant category: matriculation; campus; career success; student happiness. NCS isn't even the top all girls school.
