Barrie School vs. GDS?

I know someone who went to Barrie then went to GDS for HS. Not sure why everyone is slamming Barrie because it is a similar educational philosophy to GDS.

I think Barrie is a perfectly fine school.

But if I had the resources and a kid who wanted to go to GDS, I'd send them there in a heartbeat. We aren't STA or NCS people. We don't live in Virginia so TJ is out. I think for us GDS and Sidwell are the top tier schools followed by places like Burke, Field, Barrie, Sandy Spring.

Sorry, I forgot I was on DCUM! Let me rephrase: Your child is the smartest, greatest child to walk the face of the Earth and the school they attend is the best school in DCUM where everyone attends the best University or College in the Nation. (please substitute Barrie or GDS or anyone of the many privates depending on where your child goes.)

I think the bubble is smaller than "inside the Beltway" which would include NE, SE and SW DC and (eeeek!) PG county, not to mention parts of Virginia. The "bubble" is defined by the Potomac River, Western Ave, Rock Creek Park and downtown. Some might argue that those close to the borders are also in the "bubble" but for purposes of private school discussion you have to bear in mind that anyone in lower Montgomery has a decent public school option whereas the DC public school system in not a realistic alternative for most families here.

The schools are very similar in many respects, but people inside the "bubble" don't even know Barrie.

Not true. People in DC who really believe in progressive education know and consider Barrie. It is DCUM crazies who have some strange axe to grind. Sorry.

Not that poster, but you can look up the school on case search. It does sue a lot of parents. I assume for failure to pay tuition as contracted.

As noted, the Barrie School actions have made it easier for Maryland schools to enforce reasonable liquidated damages provisions in enrollment agreements. That may explain why some here are bashing the school.

Barrie may be a "safety" school for people who then sign the contract. When they get off a waitlist elsewhere after June 1st they bail on Barrie. I don't blame Barrie for suing or people would rip them off right and left by signing the contract and then not following through.
