Why is "breakfast at tiffany's" so iconic?

Anonymous
It is actually a pretty crappy movie. It seems like a movie that no one really likes, but we all fawn over because we are told its a classic.

Does anyone else agree?

I do agree, so I am looking for others to respond in dissent.

I think it is just represents the epitome of Audrey as an icon

You have no soul! Why do you think it is crappy?

Op here. It is an *okay* film. I just think that it is a typical love story type movie. Like I don't see anything iconic about it.

And there's that awful bit by Mickey Rooney.

I like the movie and think it has stood the test of time. It is over 50 years old at this point!

I suspect it was pretty risqué for 1961. While you might quibble with her values, I like Holly's independence. And the fashions are awesome.

I think it was just cooler than other movies from that time period, with a slightly edgy female main character. We view it differently in retrospect.

Audrey Hepburn is beautiful. George Peppard wasn't bad either.
The theme song was memorable.

OP here.

Yes that too. That added to how I feel about it.

I still love the movie. Loved the story and can appreciate the risk and independence involved during the time it was made.

The clothes were also to die for

this-- although much of the movie is dated

The book is the real deal, very dark. Movie is typical Hollywood fantasy version, common for the era.

Because Truman Capote wrote it...
