To the Woman Who Recommended the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer with SPF

Anonymous
You probably gave me the very best advice I have ever gotten on DCUM -- and possibly the best beauty advice I've ever gotten period. It combines three things into one quick step and it's awesome. For what it does it is a bargain as I can now eliminate foundation, sunscreen, and daytime moisturizer. The product is called "sheer genius" and I think the name is apt. I wish I had thought of it. Forget this desk job; I'd be rich.

So thanks.

Now, please recommend your eye make-up. Skin care products? Hair supplies?

Not the PP who suggested the Laura Mercier--although I use that product as well and also love it! For skin care, I love Patricia Wexler's night cream and eye cream. Also adore using any brand of luminizer under makeup for going out for the evening; it really makes one's skin glow and look, well, luminous. HTH.

Eye Make-up: Bobbie Brown or Smashbox. Smashbox stays on all day. Bobbi not so much but I like the sheer color

Skin Care-MD Formula at Nordstroms

Hair-Kerastase($$$) but worth every penny. I do switch it up with Bumble and Bumble to save a little here and there.

I love it too and have been using it for several years. Just a fyi though: its sunscreen only lasts for about an hour or two, max. I've had skin cancer, so I use sunscreen in addition to the product.

You can get it at Blue Mercury in Georgetown.

That makes me mad. If it says it has an SPF of 20 -- that should be enough for all day at least in the office (not the beach). Otherwise what's the damn point???????? How do you know it only works for 2 hours. No good.

Here's the thing for me: I'm willing to fight the try-to-remain-attractive-as-you-age battle with everything I can afford. I know I will lose the war in the end, but I'll not give up.

I don't mind investing in a product. What I DO MIND is spending money -- any money -- on products THAT DO NOT WORK.

Now the Kinerease (sp) poster has stated what I have often heard about this brand in terms of it being $$$$$$$ but worth it. Let me tell you: I'm a beauty insider at Sephora and that means as soon as I have a certain number of points, I get to chose a free deluxe sample. I mean, you can't dictate what you want, and sometimes they offer better samples than others, but signing up to be a beauty insider is definitely worth it, because the deluxe samples last quite awhile and are not all that smaller than the real product.

So anyway, I made a Sephora purchase, and I had three choices for my deluxe sample. And one of the samples was Kinerease lifting cream (or something like that), and I couldn't decide between that and the Purity Cleanser by Philosophy, so I clicked on the Kinerease icon and checked out the full product. IT COSTS $150.00!!!!!!!!!!!!! And 90% of the reviewers were going on and on about how it makes them look 10 years younger!! Well, I certainly was not going to lay out $150.00, but I did separate out my Sephora purchases and I have 3 deluxe samples of this alleged miracle cream coming my way. IF it makes me look 10 YEARS YOUNGER, I'll eat popcorn for dinner in order to afford it. But something tells me that nothing is that good. Maybe the reviewers have stock in the company or something.

I don't know. I've got a ton of stuff on my bathroom counter and I'm just sick of it. I want one regimen that works and I want to keep it simple. Right now, I think I have 3 different foundations, 4 different kinds of blush, 2-3 different cleansers and I'm none of them are doing what they promise to do. Except for Dr. Brandt's Pores No More -- this stuff really works and is also a primer, but of course it is expensive so I use it sparingly. And Nars lip laquer. Good colors, stays on for a long time, feels good on my lips. I feel like after all this experimenting, I should have found more than 2 good products to boast about.

Women, unite!! Let's not be out-foxed (pun?) by fancy packaging and marketing schemes and false promises. We should out the bad products and make an example of them!! I'll start: Bare Minerals. I confess, I bought the starter kit and what the hell?? The powder gets all over the sink and the counter (you are instructed to tap the excess off the brush and that this is very important) and I either have to make sure I clean it up or be prepared to answer my husband's questions. In the end, I just look . . . powdery. I mean, they have one good product and its the Mineral Veil. They should have just stopped there. Mineral Veil is all you need. Trust me.

And Philosophy's When Hope Is Not Enough -- is much more than enough. It's too much. It feels like I've put jelly on my face or something.

And now I suspect that the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer with SPF is also a FRAUD.

I'll let you know about the Kinerease.

Thanks!!!!

I tried it and I loved it -- until one of the PPs in this thread informed that the SPF protection will only last 2 hours. That makes it worthless in my opinion.

I'm the person who mentioned the SPF. Just to be clear, there are very few sunblocks that last much longer than that. And I've had skin cancers removed from my face, and so I'm way more cautious than most people. The tinted moisturizer is still a great project. I just have to apply additional sunblock during the day as per directions from my doctor.

What sunscreen do you apply throughout the day? I want to do this, but I haven't found one that doesn't smell horribly or cake on.

I've tried Clinique CityBlock and others, but they don't seem to actually protect my skin -- and "real" sunscreens like Neutrogena are just awful during a work day because they are so thick and smelly. Help! (and thanks!)

I just ordered the Cityblock because I heard such good things. That's going to be a no-go, too?

I've heard Channel makes a wonderful sunscreen, but haven't tried it. It's expensive.

re: Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer ...

prompted by that thread mentioned in the OP, I went into Sephora to try it on. It was really nice, however I liked this similar product even better, so I thought I'd throw that out there:

Wait a minute. If I walk walk min to work 2 8:30, stay in my office all day and then walk 20 min home @5:00, does that mean that LM is no longer working? even if I never went outside during the day?

PP here. Meant to say if i walk to work and back.

In response to the Clinique Cityblock question, I used to use it and found that I was still getting too much coloration from the sun. I just gave up - don't think it works. I'm pretty fair-skined, FWIW.

My sister still loves it - she uses the sheer Cityblock as a sunscreen/base. But she lives in Maine so the sun isn't as intense. And she is younger so isn't as paranoid about skin damage.

I've been using the Aveeno moisturizer with 30 SPF every morning, and that seems to be doing a better job. But I'm back to the question about reapplying - I think that's my problem.
