Shady grove scheduling an FET in December instead of November due to scheduling issues?

Anonymous
I had to freeze my embryos due to inadequate lining. I was told we could transfer mid-November. A friend just had a freeze all cycle and was given a December 3 date because there are no other openings before then, WTF????????

A transfer takes less than 5 minutes. And it's not as if these are completely predictable, the transfer could get delayed and then the lab has to accomodate a new date on short notice. . . .

I haven't received my date yet, can anyone tell me if they've managed to advocate for an earlier transfer date at Shady Grove? It's huge and they should be able to accomodate your dates. It's not like a small practice with limited doctors.

I don't want to be finding out if this worked just before Christmas. I wanted to be moving on by then.

OP here, I'm tempted to just take my shared risk money and move on to another clinic. But there's this embryo already there.

I moved my embryos to another clinic, SG's scheduling issues are ridiculous especially if you go to one of the VA offices.

I've had the same problem-twice!

For my first FET, they made me do a month of bcps before the transfer just because there were no dates available. This time I managed to luck out but originally they were trying to give me a date that absolutely did not work for us. I kept on my nurse and begged.

Very frustrating and I don't get it. Shouldn't it be based in your cycle?

It's a huge practice but they only do procedures at the location in MD which is probably why scheduling is a problem.

This time around for my FET, I wsa put on a whole pack of BCPs too which sorta stunk because I was ready to go. The last time we did an FET it happened really quick and I was only on pills for about 9 days. They definitely make you work around their schedule and I know they don't do procedures near Christmas at all.

OP here, we also don't know how long my lining will take to build up. So I am not comfortable with a fixed date and long time on BCP. I want to be able to monitor more and up the estrogen if necessary.

I am just frustrated with all the myriad of delays, many due to SG piss-poor administration. I wanted to switch donors but they just wouldn't return my calls and the new donor was taken by the end of the day.

If this cycle doesn't work, they're going to be really bummed to be giving me a refund. RBA's refund program is waiting for me.

Why did you even have access to the database after you chose a donor? You missing out on a different donor wasn't their fault--you already picked!

I scheduled an FET back in late August and received a mid-October transfer date. I didn't think it was too bad because it gave me about six weeks to prepare. I guess that seems long but I had to go through the entire process (blood work, b/c pills, resign docs, etc).

They won't force the transfer if you are not ready. They only schedule a certain number a day and then they have flexibility in the system so that if you are not ready on your day it's fine for you to push out until you are ready.

I'm actually quite surprised because I just scheduled my FET and they asked me when I wanted to do it. The first round when we froze them was the same way, they asked when we wanted to. I'm shocked that they would not be able to with schedule concerns, they have staff all over the darn place and they shuffle you through like an assembly line.

Random, only somewhat related rant - I am so sick of SG's inflexibility and impersonal approach. I don't expect them to be my friends. I gave up on finding an RE that I "liked" long ago (not that I've so much as spoken to my RE at SG since the initial consult). I know that they're a business in business to make money. But I do expect them to care, just a little. There are lots of ways to make money. If you don't care about women and men w/ IF, why go into that business? SURELY there are easier ways to make money.

I've been w/ SG for over a year, paid $30k, and my nurse still can't manage to remember my spouse's name?! Granted, there are a lot of us. I get that. But I also work in a business that depends on clients to survive and I try to remember things about my clients and their businesses so I don't seem like a f***ing idiot when they call. Look at my f***ing chart before you send me an email, get my spouse's name, and then email me. The consent forms? Why the h*** would I pay you $30k if I didn't consent to the procedure?

Sorry, I just wanted to get that out. I know it's a little thing. But when you're shot-up w/ hormones, trying to have a baby after a long, tremendously hard battle w/ IF, you want someone to f***ing give a damn. Or at least pretend to. At this point, I'd be happy if they'd just pretend to care.

An honest question...why are you still going there? There are other clinics. I went to GW for 2 kids and I still email occassionally with my nurse, who I had a wonderful relationship with and was really my rock during the whole process. I used Dr. Dayal (now gone) and Dr. Frankfurther (who is still there) who were both very personally invested in my case and great doctors.

You guys get that they have to do fresh transfers as well and those are much more unpredictable to schedule, right? I personally don't think waiting a few weeks is that big of a deal. If you do, take your $ and embyros and go elsewhere, but if you're in shared risk you can't huh, sucks to be you.

FET scheduling is called that for a reason. IT'S SCHEDULED! We cannot assume that they have the capacity to transfer 50 patients in one day. There is fixed availability in order to provide some control each day. I was told by my nurse that the lab closes at the end of December for quality control purposes, and therefore the availability may be tight. I know it is difficult to have patience in these scenarios but we have to try.
