Reno next door- house painted white where houses are red brick block after block on our street

Anonymous
Hello,

just came home today to find the house next door painted white. it's a huge eye sore considering every single house on the block and every single other block of our street ( avenue) has unpainted brick houses.
my question is: is a contractor allowed to do that? I am not aware with the zoning code, but plan on contacting DCRA this week.
any advice, info would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

Unless it's a historic district, you can usually do what you like with the property. You'll get used to it.

So would you want your neighbor to dictate what you do on your house? They have every right to paint their house any color they like. Be glad it is white.

What do you propose they do now, sandblast it off? Unless there are specific zoning (historic preservation?) rules against changing the facade, you're out of luck.

I'm painting my brick house in the spring!

Yes, please contact DCRA and let us know what you find out!! The nerve of your neighbors breaking up all that uniformity. I'm sure if there's no regulatory fix, you will be able to sue for damages.

Sounds like a Stepford neighborhood.

Take a deep breath, OP. Sometimes painted brick is nicer than ugly red (or old, orangey) brick. Maybe it's primer? Maybe they'll paint it a warm taupe? I've seen tons of beautiful painted brick homes. Who knows? Maybe they'll start a trend.

Are you in a townhouse/row house? If not, then why on earth do you even care?

It'll be easier to give directions... We're next to that one White House.... No, not THAT White House.

OP here, what is wrong with all you people jumping on everyone for questions up here? bet you all spend hours a day insulting and flaming others on DCUM. I feel sorry for you, losers.
they have broken our fence out back, made cracks in our walls, caught one guy stealing another neighbor's package, permits are not posted...so since this is a very poor reno job overall, I was just wondering about the paint.

If you had started out stating that stuff, people would have gone a lot easier on you. But it sounded like you were just freaking out about paint.
