I know a friend of mine from PG county is sending her son (13) to DCPS schools

A long-time friend of mine live in PG county. I love her dearly and don't want her to get in trouble, but I also know that she is sending her DS to a DCPS high school, despite me telling her not to.

I am on the fence on reporting her, I do really value her friendship, and I know she trusts me as I am the only person she has told, so she would know I was the one who reported her, but I also that what she is doing is 100% wrong, and a major problem ere in DCPS. I'm pretty sure she won't just get cought as she is using her Mother's DC address and hever her mother's DC-plated car so it all checks out. Do you guys have any advice?

Pp here. I wouldn't report her. It's wrong, she's your friend, but don't. I'm a dc resident and it all bugs me but I wouldn't do it.

I wouldn't report her since she's a friend, but maybe you'd have better insight into how to solve the overall problem with other out-of-city residents. Maybe you can help future residents from taking the same path somehow???

Just a quick question. I've always heard that DC schools are terrible; even worse than PG schools. Is this for a charter or something? I just can't see going from PG to DC, but it happens, so I'm apparently missing something.

Not all DC schools are terrible. Maybe all PG schools are, but definitely not all DC schools are.

This begs the question though, what school does the OP's friend's child attend? If it's Latin or Wilson or Walls that's a problem - those are all competitive schools, and DC taxpayers shouldn't be supporting a PG county cheater. Otoh, if it's Ballou or Eastern or Roosevelt, I don't think anybody really cares.

I also have a dear close friend who send her two children to DCPS and she lives in PG. I also know of one other person who had been doing it, but now he has moved into the city.

I understand OP, it's a difficult situation to be in. I never reported either of my friends.

And you are misinformed. Just as not all DC schools are poor, not all PG county schools are poor. There are a number of good and high performing schools in the county. The problem is that they are the exception, not the rule. There are several schools in northern PG county that are comfortably above the state average for test schools and get excellent reviews from students and parents in the region. The only reason some of these schools are considered undesirable is because of the minority-white demographics.

Nah, she's not a troll. My coworker sends her kids to Barnard and openly tells people that she is using a relative's address. If parents would actually befriend some of their parents of their kids school, it would be easy to tell who the residency cheaters are. It goes beyond just looking at someone's license plate.How many parents do you know?

I do too but we are close friends and I would never tell. If DC school system was serious about this and did the proper audits they would catch them themselves. I have enough to worry about in my own life and well being.

This whole thread sounds like trolling. I hope any real cheaters in this thread do get reported and investigated. If I really suspect or come to know anyone who cheats, I will be reporting them. I don't understand people who don't report.

If a PG cheater is attending Ballou or Eastern -- vs Wilson or Walls or Latin -- it's still cheating. It doesn't matter if the particular scho has a DC wait list, a cheater still takes scarce resources that would otherwise fund a school library or a science lab or math help for DC kids.
