| We just toured several private schools with $30,000 tuitions and DH is unwilling to pay for it. He is unimpressed with the college admissions at the private schools. DH and I both attended ivy league schools from public schools. Both our high schools in New England had many more ivy league acceptances than the privates we recently toured. |
| Then your kids should go elsewhere. Maybe a magnet school, boarding school or an honors program in your local school. |

I don't see the big deal of the privates. many kids form public schools go to the tops schools.

| I wouldn't enroll in a private school for their college placements. Enroll because it is the right place for your child right now. |
| Do you have a question? |
|
What high schools in New England did you attend?
Maybe you should move back to New England then. |
| Depending on your local publics, he may find he is even more disappointed with those. |
| Please, please, please do not enroll. Go somewhere else. I do not want to see your DH flipping out at a meeting in 4 years because I tell little Susie that Harvard is going to be a stretch with her 3.0 and subpar SAT scores. - College Counselor |
Do you see a difference in college admissions from the private schools compared to any decent public in MD/VA? I am trying to convince my DH to go for private school. DH actually attended a very average high school but the honors students (~25) all got into ivy leagues or similar. He was looking at the admissions from some of the privates around here and the number of acceptances to top colleges was worse than his very average high school. |
Do the kids around here not apply to the ivy leagues as much? I am genuinely curious. Students from my high school class all applied to most all ivy league schools so we had a strong mix of acceptances to Penn, Browne and Cornell. HYP is a stretch for most students but the lesser ivy league schools were not all that hard to get into. I went to a small high school and we still had 20 kids go to ivy league schools. If you added the schools like Amherst, Wellesley and similar, it was more like the top 50. |
+1. My kid has 13 years of school before college. I want him to enjoy each year. |
"you are a troll, making up a story about 'DH' hating on privates so that you can get a long discussion war. This has been done 242 times before. As you well know." |

Why would I make up this story? I have better things to do. I was hoping for some ammunition to help me convince DH to go the private school route. |
