I've tried it all, and nothing helps. Nothing. Just a vent - I can't handle the acid in my throat and face. It's my constant companion. If one more person suggests sitting up after eating, eating small meals, drinking apple cidar vinegar, antacids, or other entry level advice, or what foods to avoid, I'll scream, because this suggests that something worked for others, and NOTHING WILL EVER WORK FOR ME!
Except delivering this baby. Come on, baby. ![]() |
I am 35 weeks and the only think that helps is taking Pepcid AC first thing in the AM and then again in the afternoon/early evening. It is very severe and if I dont stay on top of it, it is really bad. It has effected this entire pregnancy. I also supplement with tums. |
I'm also 35 weeks and having nausea, especially late in the day. Acid definitely contributing. We're almost there! |
Try to find Tums Refreshers - supplement what the Doc says you can have (I use zantac 150 at night) and chew the Tums Refreshers throughout the day, and take a couple before bed. They are fantastic and everyone I give a few to ends up buying them.
Also, reflux showing up at the end of pregnancy can be a larger issue (pre-e) so definitely mention it to your doctor if you haven't already! |
I've had wicked reflux since about 25 weeks. I take a double dose of pepcid twice a day. This at least makes the acid not burn. There is NOTHING I can do to not have reflux at night. Most of the time I just sleep on the couch, propped up by 3 or 4 pillows. Sucks, but at least I can sleep. I've tried not eating after 6 or 7, but even water causes problems. I am so done with this. |
I have awful heartburn that comes out of nowhere. Sometimes I've found that I can get temporary relief if I eat a few pieces of honeydew melon. I'm 35 weeks now and hoping this goes aay when the baby is delivered. |
You can try the recipes from the Dropping Acid cookbook- I think all have a certain PH. |
You're not drinking coffee, right? That really sets off my heartburn. |
I complained about it to my OB and he made me go to a GI. The GI prescribed me protonix for the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy. SWEET RELIEF. I still had to take TUMS in the middle of the night for breakthrough reflux(I was getting up 3 times a night anyway then), but other than that it was so much better. |
Link please? I have never heard this before. I thought that reflux at the end of pregnancy is totally normal because the baby is crowding your digestive organs more as he gets bigger. |
Nothing worked for me, either (well, delivering did...), but it was a constant. I could basically eat zero carbs and all I can remember eating was almonds.
And, yes, it's basic, and no, it doesn't help for long, but baking soda as directed on the package at least gave brief respite. |
soda water was recommended by my ob yesterday.
i know you didn't want more advice, op. so, i will also just give you the sympathy!!! heartburn is the WORST!!! |
It can be normal but some people don't mention it to doctor (http://health.nytimes.com/health/guides/disease/preeclampsia) and thing heartburn/reflux is nothing. Odds are its just baby pushing everything but if you've gone all pregnancy without it until now, it doesn't hurt to bring it up. A few posters on DCUM previously said they had this as part of their pre-e diagnosis. Again, not saying this is the case at all!! But so many people come on here it is worth mentioning And I know reflux sucks. My baby will likely have a giant head of hair. |
Long-time refluxer here- DO NOT DRINK CARBONATED BEVERAGES. THEY WILL MAKE IT WORSE!!! |
This is True! ^^
