| Does anyone have personal knowledge with regard to Occidental College? It is a liberal arts college, but is it particularly well known for area academic degrees? Thanks. |

| It's a strong liberal arts college. I personally know people who have graduated with chemistry and biology degrees who enjoyed their time there and got a good education. I think it's a good choice for students who want the small liberal arts school experience, but don't want to be in the middle of a cornfield. |

Beautiful Mediterranean style campus. Academic powerhouse that provides exchange and cooperative joint degree programs with California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and Columbia University. Students at Occidental can take courses at the California Institute of Technology free of charge. In addition, a 3-2 engineering program allows qualified students the opportunity to study at Occidental for three years, completing their undergraduate experience with an additional two years either at Caltech or Columbia University. At the end of the five years, the student receives two degrees, a Bachelor of Arts in the Combined Plan from Occidental and a Bachelor of Science in the selected field of engineering from the engineering school.
OXY students can get into Columbia University School of Law with a competitive GPA and LSAT scores, Columbia Law School admits students upon completion of their junior year at Occidental into its Accelerated Interdisciplinary Program in Legal Education. Admittance to the program enables students to earn a bachelor's degree from Occidental and a law degree from Columbia in six years. |

Actually a very respectable gen'l liberal arts college near LA. The people I have met who went there are peculiarly, other-wordly attractive. I'm serious.

| It's a very good school. Probably a step down from Pomona (if you like So. Cal liberal arts colleges), but it is comfortably within the top tier of liberal arts colleges. |

Highly unusual. The relationship is very much an official one, advertised by both OC and CU. Every year, one or two (I think maybe three, but not at all sure) OC undergrads enrolls early at CU law school. But the overall impact is tiny -- this is something only for a handful of people at the top of the class. |

In theory, yes. But they let in maybe one CC kid per year under this program. Out of 3,500 enrolled (and no knowledge that Barnard is eligible). |
